The NES Compendium Project (Phase 1)
The NES Compendium Project (Phase 1)
This thread has spawned from my original price guide thread. It appears what we've decided on is working towards creating a complete compendium of NES games (to expand into other categories later). This compendium's goal is to be made for the collector and the general enthusiast in mind. Each game will receive its' own page (page size TBD), with general information, fun and interesting facts, price point data (up to that point), etc. The goal is to find out everything that you would want to see in such a project.
When all the details of what a page will entail is settled and I have a design complete, we will need volunteers for the project. We will be able to provide a profit sharing model - so that if this book succeeds, after costs are recovered, we will be able to pay those who would be volunteering with the writing. If you are interested, I will be asking for volunteers in Phase 2.
So, on to Phase 1 - knowing exactly what you would like to see in such a project. Comments/suggestions are what we are looking for, so please add your thoughts!

Re: The NES Compendium Project (Phase 1)
I think it would be interesting to note Programmers. I usually see Developers/producers, but programmers moved around a lot back then, and it would be interesting to know who developed what. For example, what Konami games were made for the NES but were programmed by the people who would eventually made up treasure.
I don't know how easy it would be to find that information though.
Also, would pricing be slipt up? Maybe 3 categories, cart only, boxed but not in great condition, and mint cib?
I am quite interested to see where this goes!

Yeah, availability of information is key. In the other thread it was suggested that we provide quantity made, but I'm not sure how available that information is (otherwise I'd love to do it). I was thinking to also do a Rarity Scale.dunpeal2064 wrote:I think it would be interesting to note Programmers. For pricing, it'd be three categories, and likely with ranges due to the fluctuating nature (as opposed to the price guide project where it would be updated frequently). CIB will definitely require a set condition (maybe a 8-9/10) to determine pricing.

Re: The NES Compendium Project (Phase 1)
Hmm, I'm guessing we could find out the programmers by looking at the credits of the games? Although I remember reading that some of those credits were not entirely accurate, at least on some games.
I would love to know what other games some of my favorite programmers have made, since most of them have jumped around companies like mad

most credits were not even names. They were nick-names. BunBun for instance. Good luck cracking that case! Maybe TOSE will fill you in?dunpeal2064 wrote:Hmm, I'm guessing we could find out the programmers by looking at the credits of the games? As far as being complete in the sense of listing all the games, yes. Data-wise, no.retrosportsgamer wrote:Does nintendoage already have all this info?

Probably. But it's way cooler to have an actual book in your collection to flip through and read. I think this is a great idea and I seriously hope we see a final product. All the best wishes for this to succeed.retrosportsgamer wrote:Does nintendoage already have all this info?

^ oh I agree. This would be something I would buy. Heck, I would contribute the sports game piece if needed.

Back on topic: Sweet concept. Would be nice to see something like an every-two-years release to reflect changes in pricing.
