After all these years, I finally slide in an SD card to back up my saved games. You can only copy one save at a time, and the process isn't very fast, but at least I have them backed up. I find that several of them are "locked" and cannot be copied to the card. That's just great. So, if I buy a new Wii or want to continue my saved game at a friend's house, I lose all my progress? This is ridiculous.
What happens when I upgrade to the Wii U? I won't be the only one wondering how to use my saves and downloaded content on the new system. I am hoping Nintendo has some sort of "secure" transfer of data at launch.

There are programs for the HBC that can copy the entire memory to card
Re: Locked saves on the Wii
Most of those locked files are for games with some online component, like Smash Brothers. I don't know if they are locked for any other reason than to prevent some cheating or if those files are actually linked to your specific Wii, ala Phantasy Star Online saves for the Dreamcast.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
