Dark Souls WiiU 2013 or bust
WiiU and warmed leftovers?
WiiU and warmed leftovers?
My only console at the moment is a Wii, and that's OK.
But I do see titles I'd like to try like Red Dead Redemption and Dark Souls and and Super Street Fighter 4 and Arkham City and the new Ace Combat. I'm really hoping that many of the "greatest hits" from PS360 land on WiiU with even just slight upgrades. Is anyone else looking forward to "up ports" on the system? I've read a different opinion widely that the WiiU will suffer as after the first rush of "up ports", the system will again be stuck with reduced versions of the same games the more powerful MS and Sony successor systems.

I dont think it will be that big of a problem.
Connected to this, I was talking to a very technical friend of mine - he writes a couple tech columns and designed microchips for a while, and he had a very curious thought about the potential future of the home gaming market. He said that next generation everything may be similar to this time around, but with all three getting similar ports. But the following generation may be smart phone based. With the arrival of wireless HDMI, the quad core cpus in phones/tablets, and that bluetooth devices are everywhere, he believes that we could easily see portable and home consoles go the way of the smart phone in as soon as a generation. Now I dont think it is going to happen as soon as he does, but its getting ruddy close. I mean it will be really convenient to buy one copy of the game and I can play it everywhere and a really cool concept, but I like hardcopies of my console games.

I'm still holding out for Virtual Reality.

or a holodeck

I'd never really thought about it, but I can see that a lot of companies would see it as a quick way to get software out on the new platform. It would be pretty cool to see some of those PS3/360 games on a Nintendo.
I don't think it will be a major problem for the console though, I can still see it getting a good chunk of original software which will quickly take center stage.
@Fast - I don't think we are quite there yet but its def coming. The differences between what you can do on a PC, TV, Phone and console are all getting smaller and smaller. When phones started to look like PDA's it looked like this convergence was going to happen pretty fast, but it seems to have slowed down.
I think that this is directly due to the form factors of the different devices. A smart TV might be the best place to watch AVGN, but if you want to look up some information then hogging the main screen in the house and making the rest of the family watch you google stuff isn't really ideal, therefore you still need a laptop - an Internet TV won't replace that altogether. I see consoles being the same as well, some games work better on a portable because of the situation that they get used in. I don't want to play Tetris on the TV and I don't really want to play a big story based game on the train either.

A lot of that stuff can be remedied with WiiU's unique controller though.Curlypaul wrote:if you want to look up some information then hogging the main screen in the house and...
