Dang it, if you want to censor something just try and do it. Don't just make up absurd crap.

They probably should look in to the vast amount of war novels out there; most of them have at least a few scenes violating those treaties.

Seriously, though, if the Red Cross ever comes to a company and asks them to stop violating one of these treaties in their video games, this is the press release I want to see:

"Dear Red Cross,

Fuck off.

Sincerely,
Activision"

If they want to encourage some games to take real laws and policies into account as part of making a realistic war game, that's fine, but if they want to create laws against the gaming industry to do so, that's just flat out stupid and a violation of first amendment rights.

Seriously, WTF. Why are they even wasting time on this? Are we going to have to debate whether the Geneva convention applies to Nazi zombies as well? This is dumber than PETAs complaints about Mario's Tanooki suit.

^ This. It'll never even bother to come to anything remotely similar to anything here in America, where it'll be laughed off with delicious scorn as soon as someone even thinks about adopting it.

And with good reason! It's fiction. Then again, I don't know how many brainless idiots there are out there who probably think MW3 is realistic.

Usually when I make the argument that games are at their best when they deliberately deviate from mimicking the real world, I am justifying the bright vibrant art work of my favorite games to fans of the Call of Duty style genres.

Now I find myself using the exact same statement to defend the Call of Duty style genres.

Irony, your name is gaming.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

No reason to make these games illegal, no matter how disgusting they are.

SHOULD WAR TREATIES APPLY TO FICTION?

This is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really stupid.

Possibly the single stupidest thing I have heard all year, maybe even the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

They can't actually be serious here can they? Someone tell me Kotaku's just misconstruing something.

My local(ish) paper had this article in it a few days ago.
