Homebrew won't boot on Dreamcast
I have a PAL dreamcast which I bought a while back and felt like playing some homebrew because I was stuck on Jet Set Radio and bored of Virtua Fighter 3tb. I burned a copy of BoR coleection onto a CD-R using the tutorial on this site. They wouldn't play on my dreamcast dspite the fact it has a 1 on the bottom which should mean that it can play burned discs. I have requested help before but nothing seems to work. When I insert the disc and boot the game the CD begins to spin but either stops abruptly or crashes the console. Could someone please explain why this is happening and if there is, a way to get the game to play?

Did you burn slowly? Did you use the right software for the image? Did you end up burning the image file on the CD, or did you get a disc full of files?

Re: Homebrew won't boot on Dreamcast
yeah burn slowly.
Or redownload the file. It does happen sometimes. Some downloads dont work 100%. Try again.
Burn a different game and see if that one works. If it doesnt, then your dreamcast may not be one that takes burned games.
Dreamcast games are quite easy to burn once you get the hang of it.

maybe the ip.bin is not on it, you may need a boot disc. was this an image or did you make the image yourself? every pal dc should theoretically be able to play burned games.

I'm not exactly the best with this subject, but try a Utopia Boot Disk, Idk if that will help, but the others got what I was gonna say.

Re: Homebrew won't boot on Dreamcast
I recently heard from a friend of mine that basically launch consoles(99?) are the ones that are able to do this. I'm not sure what his experience with it was, but that's the information he has given me.

All Dreamcasts sans some Japanese ones manufactured very late can play burned games IIRC. I'm 99% sure we had a thread about this and it was pretty much debunked.
