Unlicensed NES Games Help

Post by TEKTORO »

Hi party people,

Picked up a few Camerica unlicensed games and having trouble getting them to play (Quattro adventures & Bee52).

My Nes is toaster style with replacement pins plays all my nes games 100% of the time, now for these two games (Quattro Adventures & Bee52) I get as far as a Blinking Menu?

EDIT:Found some answers but would my system still display the blinking menu even with the lockout chip?

Some solutions and info.
-It seems the A/B switch was made for region use.
-NES systems require lockout chip disabled Mod to play unlicensed games.
-FC Twin & Yobo systems play unlicensed games fine even if the game is missing its back A/B switch (no lockout on these systems).

List of Camerica Games-
Bee 52
Big Nose Freaks Out
Big Nose the Caveman
Dizzy the Adventurer
Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy
Fire Hawk
Linus Spaceheads Adventure
Micro Machines
Mig 29 Soviet Fighter
Quattro Adventures
Quattro Arcade
Quattro Sports
Super Robin Hood
Stunt Kids
Ultimate Stuntman

So off to buy a knock off NES,Geez :|

Did it work here and there at all?
The only stuff I found that I havent tried yet was to wiggle the cart around while its flashing to see if it catches a spot.

some of these games require you to reset the system 9 times or something. or disable the lockout chip and put the switch on position B.

Thanks for the info,
I may (maybe) go with a clone since it seems it would work without doin any mods to my toaster.

another question now pertaining to clone NES's.Ill most likely get one for this reason but would like alittle more incentive.

what would be the best nes clone to go with?
Cheap would be nice or portable cant hurt either.Anything going for under $50 with positive reviews or actual owner insite?

I've owned the FC Twin, the Retro Duo, and the Retron 3...all are cheaply made, very light plastic, and grip the hell out of your NES carts (SNES, not as bad). The included controllers are awful and best donated or thrown out, particularly the wireless retron 3 pads, just amazingly bad.

I'd spend the same amount $40-50 and get a top loader - which is what I did after cycling through all 3 of those.

If you want it for the ease of playing the unlicensed NES and super famicom (on the snes cart bay), then I guess technically they do work, but everything about them reeks of cheap parts and poor quality control. The Retron 3 is sorta neat in that it has GENESIS support as well, and controller ports for NES/SNES/GEN so you can use your original pads, i'd go with that one if your set on getting a clone.

All toasters have lockout chip, not sure about the top loaders. Unlicenced games often sent shocks to overload and confuse the lockout chip in the system into thinking everything was fine. It might just be that Nintendo made a revision that resisted the overload hacks.
