Excite Truck - Why didn't anyone tell me this game was great

Post by Zing »

I bought ExciteBots on day one due to some mild hype. I was disappointed. I had no real clue as to what was going on or the point to the whole thing. I played it a bit for a couple weeks, dabbled in some online play, then shelved it forever.

Yesterday, I was in the mood to buy some Wii games, so I went on a search for something decent. I rediscovered Excite Truck and remembered that I had always planned on getting that game. So, I bought a used copy for $10 from a local shop.

Wow, this game is some of the most fun I have ever had! Unlike ExciteBots, there isn't ridiculous crap like "pie in the face" or "super sandwich". Despite the fact that spinning trucks in mid-air and changing the landform is still a ridiculous concept, it doesn't feel as alien. It all just "clicks".

I spent hours playing it yesterday. I have S-ranked the bronze and silver cups. I S-ranked a single gate challenge. What an enjoyable game!

It would be nice to know what I need to do to unlock certain things ahead of time. For now, they just randomly seem to appear. My most recent one was a new paint job on a truck that I used to earn three S-ranks. I guess I will just see what else happens and avoid any FAQs for now.

After this experience, I dug out ExciteBots and gave it another try. It is virtually identical to Excite Truck, except with poles you can grab and all the "funny" stuff like tambourines, pies, soccer balls, and so on. The method you use to unlock is completely different as well. In Excite Truck, you gain unlocks for doing certain things. In ExciteBots, you buy them all with stars you earn during races. I will shelve Bots for now and focus on Truck.

Ah, I remember that game. It was pretty fun, but don't even bother with multiplayer. It's very tacked on.

I did this all the time. ExciteTruck is one of the best Wii games, and hands down its best racer.

I can see why you played your own music. ExciteTruck's music is very generic and wears out it's welcome quickly. I know this from having two brothers younger than 10 who play the game to death. :x

Oh man, I used to have this game. I was amazed how much fun it was. I just wish the multiplayer had been more robust so it would have lasted longer in my wii.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

What´s wrong here then?
I played it and it really massively sucks. I hate that game. The gameplay blows.
The best racing game on the WII is F-Zero GX.
