No Mercy Memory questiom

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello,
I heard that the first batch of bartridges shipped for No Mercy on the 64 faced memory issues where it will randimly delete your saved files. Can any one help me how can I identify if my cartridge has the same issue or not? I really hate for my save files being randomly deleted

the only way to find out is to play your game then save your files. if it gets erase every time you turn off your N64, then you have the old version.

I was fortunate - I got mine on the release date but never had any issue with saves deleting. My cousin wasn't as fortunate.

The first copy I bought had the memory issue. It was really annoying! Since the game is so cheap, it wasn't too much of a problem, I just picked up another copy. As far as I remember though, it wasn't a case of it being unable to save like sevin0seven said. It instead randomly deleted itself. I once played a month without losing anything, then it erased itself. Other times, it may only last a day. Seemed completely random.

Also, I MAY have this wrong, but I think many of the later versions that run fine without problems, had the blood removed. That's an easy way to tell for sure. That said, my copy I have now that works fine hasn't had the blood removed, so it must be an early copy that just happens to be ok.

Hmm, I never heard the blood thing. There was an option to turn it on or off - perhaps that was saved to a cart you picked up?

No, the blood was fine in my version. My mate's brother bought a copy on the day of release, but when THQ (or whoever was handling the replacements for those who had a dodgy copy) sent him a replacement, the blood had gone. My mate told me blood was removed from the newer copies. Maybe he had it wrong though and it had simply been turned off in the options menu without him realizing.

It's easiest to tell by just playing normally. The entirety of saved data on bad copies is deleted randomly. Gone. No trace. CAWs, options, money earned, story progress, title belts... Wiped out. Forever.

This is a SEVERE recurring issue. If you've ever been affected, you will know and you will be unhappy. Repeated total data loss is not something any self respecting gamer can simply forget or shrug off.

It's to my knowledge never been proven NTSC bloodless or save-fixed carts exist. I've yet to see any photos or ROM files suggesting a potential "1.1" except for PAL. At least a PAL 1.1 dump is out there. Whatever the difference may be.
Lum fan.
