HOLIDAY GAMING: What did you ask for / what are you buying?

Post by BoneSnapDeez »

Well, it's the holiday season. Hopefully you'll all be receiving some nice gifts in the upcoming weeks. What did you all ask for and what did you get for other people?

What I asked for:
1. 3DS console (from my wife). She tried to get me to trade in my DS to GameStop for some saving on a 3DS. Turned into a bit of an argument as I had to explain that 1) I don't trade games or systems as I'm a collector and 2) I only own the old phat DS which GameStop won't take anyway...
2. Kirby's Epic Yarn (from my sister-in-law)
3. Sands of Destruction (from my brother)

What I've bought for other people:

1. NBA 2k12 (for my sister-in-law, I almost bought 2k11 by accident, I can't tell all this shit apart)

And that's it!

I never ask people for rare goods or things they'd have to find on ebay, etc. Most of my relatives are not very internet savvy and I don't want to complicate things.

Plus, my parents are very anti-video game so I never explicitly ask them to buy me any, usually I just ask for cash or gift cards. :?

Usually i just ask for money, since i just get everything off eBay, but this year I asked for some seasons of Entourage and Sons of Anarchy, probly my favorite shows right now
Edit : I realize thats not really gaming related, but with the cash i get, i get games

I detest putting together a list of things to ask for around the holidays, but usually have to do it anyway. I'd like to think that people who feel obliged to buy me a gift would already have an idea what I like...

I designated my SupaBoy purchase as something my wife could give me for the holidays (we did decide that in advance).

Also, getting a 3DS w/ Mario Land 3D, Mario Kart 7 and I'm thinking Zelda OOT.

Wii Fishing Resort somehow made it into this gift pile and I must rescue it.

I normally have the issue that they know I like games, but not which games I own already

Anyhow, I put a list of about 10 games out to people and let them choose what to get me. That way I get something I want, they get the easy life deciding and I still get surprised on the day because I dont know which ones to expect. I should get a few of them because it's my birthday on Christmas Eve too.

These are the ones I'm letting people choose from:
1. Starfox 64 3D (3DS)
2. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
3. Mario Kart 7 (3DS)
4. Tales of the Abyss (3DS)
5. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
6. Kirby's Adventure Wii (Wii)
7. Professor Layton & The Spectre's Call (DS)
8. Kirby Mass Attack (DS)

I think that was it. I could've missed something.

Same here, very annoying. I don't celebrate Christmas, and don't want any gifts, but people have a hard time understanding that mentality and just continuously ask what I want anyway.

I have a list of boardgames and books I have my eye on if people ask for gift ideas, but if I dont get any of them I will work down the list over time anyway. Video games I usually purchase for myself - I typically dont let people buy me retrogames since I have set lists of what I am looking for and what I have (I learn this after I ended up with seven copies of T&C Surf Design - which is a great game, but I only need one copy). I dont celebrate except with my family and my girlfriends family, both sets refuse the answer no.

I will be spending money on the Christmas Sales at GoG and Steam though. Thanksgiving sale netted me little - Section 8 4 pack and Greed Corp, but the Christmas Sale will get me something good.
