Very true, but at the same time I would argue that the PlayStation d-pad isn't much better. It's very good for precise up, down, left, right movement. But when it comes to sweeping motions for things like fighting games it feels AWFUL. Luckily, arcade sticks solve that problem rather handily.s1mplehumar wrote:As a 360 owner, surely you've touched the d-pad. Is Nintendo the only company that can make good d-pads? Well besides Sega and the Saturn controller

I don't understand why Microsoft or Sony doesn't just copy the Saturn d-pad. Is Sega holding some sort of patent on it still?swiftzx wrote:Is Nintendo the only company that can make good d-pads? Well besides Sega and the Saturn controller

I don't see why anyone wouldn't like PlayStation controllers. For 3 generations they've kept to just pretty much copying the SNES pad. Which is fine with me. PlayStation controllers are definitely far more comfortable (to me) than 360.

I like both ps3 and 360, but I have to say 360 controller is 'hands' dow n more comfortable to menoiseredux wrote:I don't see why anyone wouldn't like PlayStation controllers. I hate the location of the ps3 left analog stick and the 360 controllers fits more comfortably in my hands. I aso prefer the 360 triggers.

I honestly don't have much of an issue playing fighters on the Playstation d-pad. Is it optimal? Of course not. But far fewer people seem to have issues with it for casual play than the 360's pad. Plus for most if you need to do 360s/720s, you can just hop to the analog stick real fastZenErik wrote:Very true, but at the same time I would argue that the PlayStation d-pad isn't much better. Fighters I do tend to buy on the PS3 just to avoid the 360's D-pad. Other than that, I like both of the controllers, so it's just a matter of which has the better version (if in doubt, I tend to go with the 360). I don't really play console games online, so that angle doesn't matter to me, though it seems like Live is more consistent (an upside of MS's tighter control), making it the platform of choice for those who play online a lot.

Re: Comparing port differences in the PS3 and 360
I prefer the PS3 pad to the 360 pad, but I really wish they would've kept R2 and L2 as pressure sensitive buttons instead of triggers. I also like the longer analog sticks on the PS3 controller, it allows for more precision and just feels better to me.
FWIW I use a 360 pad with my PC all the time for racing games and such.
