Question on Atari 2600

Post by MrAverageRetro »

Well I just acquired one and still have that feeling of butterflies in my stomach I was so excited over getting it and it has the Atari logo but the RCA cord is hardwired into the console itself is this a different model it is a woody heres my video of it and I would really be mad if this turned out to be a remake, emulator or what ever I bought it a trading game store it shows aging to me at least and he said it is a genuine Atari 2600 it even came with an RF Modulator I am really paranoid about it being fake it also has the Atari logo

It looks like any normal heavy sixer to me.

I'd definitely wait for confirmation as I'm not that knowledgeable about the six switch system, but I don't see anything that would make me think it might be fake.

The picture quality is awful but to me it looks like an original Atari VCS (2600) Heavy Sixer

I was just wondering because in my mind I thought the Atari would be big in real life and would be really heavy and it isnt and the fact that it shows wear and tear I mean plus that fact that it has the Atari Logo on it

now for my two cents.

That is a regular atari. There have been other revisions of it, but yours is good too. Some other revisions have the "difficulty" toggles in the front, moved to the back next to the controller ports. Then there is the Jr. Atari as well.

Some games you have to press the button or pull the reset toggle to start the game. Many games when they start (and once you get game over) then have funky colors. There's nothing wrong when this happens so dont freak out.

Also for fun mess with the A & B difficulty. It changes the game (DUH). For example if you're gonna play Space invaders and you move the difficulty, it changes the shape of your ship. It makes you a bigger target.

Experiment or look online for the alternate games built in to each game. There are plenty of variations of space invaders for you to enjoy.

Games can still work even if the cover is broken. Look at activision games, they dont need it. Atari made them that way just so the connectors wont get dirty.

That pac man game is MEH! If you go back for another game Get Ms. Pac-man. Im sure that pacman is super common. Jr pacman is much harder but still fun.

have fun with your 2600!

The six switch is a pretty nice size, it's the 5200 that makes the oxbox look tiny.
