Help PS3 controller on Steam with mac

Post by benderx »

Has anyone out there been able to play steam with a ps3 controller on mac. I kinda want to play with a ps2 or ps3 controller. I wish it was simple configuration. Games I have on mac are left 4 dead 2, Psychonauts, and Duke nukem forever, and few freebies Team fortress. I just want to play it with ps3 controller.

There is a program for Windows called motioninjoy which provides various PS controller drivers and even an option to have the PS3 controller be recognized as a 360 controller. Very very useful. Not sure if something similar is available on Macs

actually most Ps3/2 controllers are recognized on Windows and play as regular joysticks.

If you look for Mac PS3 drivers you can find something that works. There is little to No support for Mac and bluetooth for the PS controllers.

Once you have a working controller, you should be able to just play in steam.

While I have not used any of them, a quick search turned up a few potential solutions...

PS3 controller driver
ControllerMate
GamePad Companion (apparently in the Mac App Store)
Remote Buddy

Not free unfortunately.

One link claimed USB Overdrive doesn't work for the purpose, though historically it'd probably be the thing people would point to given how long its been around.
