Question to the Married or Long-Term Relationship People

My girlfriend rolls her eyes at me because I won't trade in or sell my old games for new ones.

Even then though, she isn't really angry about it, as long as I keep my expenditure under control. I think she's OK with it too because she know's I actually buy games I fully intend to play, and don't just purchase for a 'collection'.

I've gotten her playing games too, although ironically not the type of game I like. I sit playing all the cutesy games like Kirby and Chibi Robo on my Wii (actually, she played both of these and enjoyed them) whereas she enjoys Fallout, Left 4 Dead and Fable on her 360 more.

My brother had a yard sale a few years back, where he sold the Avirex flight jacket I bought him for being the best man in my wedding 15 years prior. It wasn't one of the $30 imitation flight jackets, it was a high-end jacket that I shopped weeks to find the best price on, and it still set me back close to $100. He sold it for $15. There are few times in my life I have ever been as pissed off as I was that day.

I can certainly understand how this stings. A couple of years back, I imported (and spent a fair deal of money on) a new copy of Mother 1+2 for my brother, as he's always been a fan of the series. A couple of weeks later I asked him how he liked the game and he nonchalantly replied "Ooops, well I think I lost that somewhere in the house...... Oh well maybe it'll turn up eventually."

That kinda pissed me off.

I think it doesn't have anything to do with games/trading/selling - it's just that maybe the OP's wife expected her gifts to have sentimental value to the person who received them, which is understandable. It's generally in bad form to give away or sell gifts you've received (it implies that you don't appreciate the gift.)

My gut is she's probably more upset about being vernacularly espoused in the same vein as say, the lawn, or the groceries, as opposed to being concerned about what you do with your video games.
