I'm interested in getting both. Not necessarily soon, although a used retailer near me has a 3DO for cheap so I may end up getting that soon if it's still there after all the Black Friday stuff.
What I was wondering in regards to the 3DO is with the internal memory for saving. How does it store data? Is there a way to replace the battery or memory module safely in the event that it dies? I honestly don't know a lot about the 3DO. There are a few games I've always wanted for one but never had the opportunity arise that I could get one.

You can see in some of the pics that there's a coin battery. It's almost certainly a CR2032. You would be able to change it the same way you would in a NES, SNES, Genesis cart, etc.
This site has a pic of a Goldstar 3DO board: http://www.giantbomb.com/3do/60-26/
The picture is really low res, but you can clearly make out the battery (the yellow ring in the bottom right).

Re: 3DO Memory Question
Awesome thanks. My last question then would be taking it apart, does that use just a regular screwdriver or some special tool like the other consoles?

I have never owned one, or even seen one in person, so I really can't tell you. I bet it uses regular old phillip head screws though.

Re: 3DO Memory Question
I have a 3D0 model FZ-10 and I know it has built in memory. I see no slot or space for a battery. That or it has to be taken apart to remove a battery.
I dont like to take apart my stuff unless its really necessary.
But what I do know (have read) is that certain 3D0 games and demos have a file manager program where you can erase unneeded save files. This feature is weirdly not built in?
I dont remember how much built in memory it has, but dont expect it to be much even by todays standards.

Re: 3DO Memory Question
It's probably soldered to the board like the other two models in the above links.flojocabron wrote:I have a 3D0 model FZ-10 and I know it has built in memory. I see no slot or space for a battery. That or it has to be taken apart to remove a battery.
Huh, that sounds like N64 games. Games that use a memory card almost all have a file manager (you hold down start while powering on the console to access it).flojocabron wrote:But what I do know (have read) is that certain 3D0 games and demos have a file manager program where you can erase unneeded save files. How many 3DO games actually use saves though? A lot, or more like half?flojocabron wrote:I dont remember how much built in memory it has, but dont expect it to be much even by todays standards.
Re: 3DO Memory Question
Most 3do games use saves for high score if anything. Some games use a lot more space than others.
The FZ-10 has a built in memory manager.
If you have an FZ-1, you can access the memory from a demo disk or several games.
The battery is a simple fix. For the most part, I would recommend the FZ-10 unless you want the pro looking FZ-1(front loader).
Also, no fancy screws on these.
