I am ready for a new generation, so all the current stuff will be retro and I can afford it.

I'm not surprised, I just don't think it's necessary.swiftzx wrote:And you're surprised why?

I actually felt this way at the end of LAST generation!
I felt like all the major consoles still had a lot of life in them.
Anyhow, I think this generation took longer than normal to really catch its stride, which is probably why it feels like it's too soon to end. My question really is what would the next generation of consoles really have to offer? I mean even in terms of graphical capability, I can't imagine a HUGE leap.

Ah, that wonderful time when a console isn't old enough to be retro and isn't new enough to be current, where everything worth getting can be had for dirt, dirt cheap. Gotta love it.pepharytheworm wrote:I am ready for a new generation, so all the current stuff will be retro and I can afford it.

I do agree, new consoles are totally not necessary. That'll only make me worry about how shortened that next gen of consoles would be. Gamers care more about games than shiny square shaped plastic. Meanwhile, my Sega Saturn and Wii will remain my home consoles of choice. At least until something crazy happens.

even if a console generation is generally 5 years, I was still buying newly released PS2 games in 2008. So I know what you mean. Especially where PS2 was concerned, it DID have a lot of life left in it. I mean here it is almost 2012 and you can still buy brand new PS2's pretty much anywhere.AppleQueso wrote:I actually felt this way at the end of LAST generation!I felt like all the major consoles still had a lot of life in them.

Right now I have no intention of getting a next gen console. Maybe like 5 years down the line, if there are some standout games out there from developers that I really like, I'll buckle, but at this point I have zero interest in new hardware or games.

I'm with CRTGAMER: I'm still getting games for the PS2/GCN/Xbox, who has time or money to get stuff for the Wii-U, PS4, and 720?

I normally only buy current gen stuff on Nintendo anyway, and I'm reasonably excited for the Wii U already (despite that atrocious name). I don't really see the rush to upgrade the 360 and PS3 though, the amount of graphical quality we have already is so high already that it carries huge costs and enormous time consumption. They would need to do more than their token graphics update to make a new console a worthwhile proposition imo.

I can agree with you on this one. I still have plenty of games to play not just this gen, but past gens too. Looking foward to the Wii U though, though only because of Nintendo's games.
