I'm really not ready for another console generation.
I feel like this next-next gen is pretty rushed. The Wii-u is coming soon, and there's rumors of another Xbox which would suggest Sony wouldn't be too far behind with a PS4. I just think it's all a bit rushed. I know I'm not the only one to only recently "get with the times." But I guess I just don't feel another gen is necessary yet. I'm certainly not looking at PS3 games and thinking "damn, these graphics are so dated." Y'know? And I feel worse for those that spent $600 on a PS3 at launch, because an impending next-gen must feel even sooner to them. Is it just me, or do a lot of you feel like the hardware we have is perfectly good to be utilized for quite a bit longer?

I feel this way too. I mean, I'm perfectly fine with the Wii U coming out soon since Nintendo definitely needs an upgrade. But I really don't see the point of releasing a new Sony/Microsoft console in the next 3 years. I suppose the 360 could use a slight upgrade, but not a big enough upgrade to warrant a whole new console.
Re: I'm really not ready for another console generation.
I agree that the hardware we have is perfectly fine for now and that Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony should be pushing to develop games we actually want to pay for and not new systems....
however, with that said, it's weird to think that my cell phone has more RAM than my ps3....
There are some weird decisions made when building a console and as such it puts developers under some harsh limitations. However, that just leads to better coding and optimization for the system, which is never a bad thing. They have had the current gen systems for enough time now that we should be getting games that really exploit the hardware to the fullest potential instead of looking for a new piece of hardware...

Launch was five years ago. If you put $600 into your PC and got five good strong years from it, that would be considered pretty fine! ..but mostly, I agree. It's too soon. We're still getting really great games, and nothing feels dated at all. It's not too soon for the Wii, though, at least competitively. Nintendo has had a lot to learn, and I hope they take the lesson in some key areas (online, digital distribution, less reliance on a gimmick or one gameplay element, etc).noiseredux wrote:And I feel worse for those that spent $600 on a PS3 at launch, because an impending next-gen must feel even sooner to them.
Re: I'm really not ready for another console generation.
The graphic abilities and processing power of PCs have far surpassed the Xbox360 and PS3 at this point, but games get developed for a multiplatform release, so the PC is held back from taking full advantage of its strength. Also, some console gamers might feel that if the technology is there for higher horsepower consoles, then they should use it.
That being said, I don't care enough about realistic graphics for this to matter and the games I enjoy the most are often indie titles that don't come anywhere near using the PCs full potential. So, I agree that there is no rush for a new generation of consoles, but I can see why some people would want them.

I think that the next generation is going to have to be backwards compatible if it wants to catch on. I think current gamers would be more inclined to "upgrade" rather than fully "replace."
The past generation made this transition pretty well, with PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 all having some degree of backwards-compatibility. I think more gamers have become resistant to the idea of selling all their games when a new system comes out.

I'm still on last generation
My son has the PS3, I have so much wrapped in gaming in the older consoles. There is enough to occupy me for years and years. I do have a Wii though, hopefully the WiiU won't kill support.
Next Generation next year or two would be too soon, maybe a Video Game Crash might happen? Doubtful though, from the look at long lines yesterday. I think most buy the latest electronics over food.

I'm pretty sure they confirmed that the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii.CRTGAMER wrote:I'm still on last generation![]()

I wouldn't hold my breath, Nintendo could convert the "Compatibility" as Wii purchased downloads only. I was alluding to development and new game support that still works on the Wii console.XxBroBuzzxX wrote:I'm pretty sure they confirmed that the Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii.CRTGAMER wrote:I do have a Wii though, hopefully the WiiU won't kill support.

And you're surprised why? For the most part, consoles have a 5-6 lifespan. It is understandable for new consoles to be released. Heck, 3ds is out already and Vita is coming out early next year.
