The Nintendo Triple Stack

Post by BurningDoom »

I remember reading about this in a gaming magazine back in the 90s (sorry, couldn't tell what issue or even what magazine it was now). It was an accessory or adapter of some sort for the N64 that was supposedly in-development that never got released. From what I remember it was supposed to allow you to be able to play NES, SNES, & N64 games on your N64. Or maybe it somehow connected them all together. I'm not sure, it was a while ago.

I just wanted to mention it and see if anyone else remembers hearing anything similar back then? Wanted to make sure it wasn't some distorted memory due to my party days. And if I'm not crazy, where could I find information about it online? I don't even have a clue where I read it or what the thing was called so I can't begin to search for it.

Hi, Emerald_Warrior. Anyway, Google doesn't seem to bring up any information other than your Gamespot post. Maybe it was called something else?

I think what you're talking about is the TriStar, a third party, unlicensed peripheral that sat on top of the N64 and allowed you to play SNES and NES games, along with N64. I believe it also allowed for imports as well due to a lack of region locking slots. Someone here on the boards sold one a few months ago actually, first time I'd ever seen one here.

Don't expect the TriStar to work with s-video for NES games, possibly not even at all since it likely has its own video output.

On that note, don't expect it to be any good in any aspect. If it's anything like the TriStar/Super 8, it wont be that good. NOAC technology wasn't as good back then, so I'm sure there's a good list of NES games that either wont work or wont work right. I have no idea how SNES could be on it, but I'd image not very good.

Thanks for the info guys, it was driving me nuts. It looks I won't be buying one anytime soon, considering those prices.

According to the Ebay article, its pretty crap. It can't play any games that have an extra chip. No Star Fox, no buy.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360

WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.
