Re: Is the Sega CD worth collecting for?
Just wondering but I have heard rumors that certain production runs of the Sega 32X are known to have build quality problems or problems not playing certain games like Knuckles chaotix. Is this true?

What would be a fair price for a Sega 32X?
Re: Is the Sega CD worth collecting for?
As for the 32X having problems like not being able to play Knuckles' Chaotix, I actually used to have that problem. I've found that I'm pretty sure there are some types of Genesis out there that won't work with that game. All I know is that I used to be unable to get beyond the title screen, I switched to a model 1 Genesis, and the game worked fine.
The 32X does give me some trouble, but this guide showed the solution that works for me: http://www.sonic-cult.org/articles/32x/
I paid about $20 for a new 32X back in the day. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend buying it for any more than that. It's not like there are any must-own games for the system, Knuckles' Chaotix aside.

Thanks for the link. I ended up finding one with all the cables and accessory's for about thirty dollars. It is a bit dirty though, will need some cleaning. Hopefully Knuckles works with my Genesis seeing as it is a model 2.Nemoide wrote:As for the 32X having problems like not being able to play Knuckles' Chaotix, I actually used to have that problem. What's the skinny on no copyright protection? Why not?Xeogred wrote:It's worth noting if you can't afford the games, it's still just awesome to have the system and there's no copyright protection on the games. So burn away and play on the real hardware.

CD burners were $1000+ back then and blanks were pricey too. The first time I bought CDRs for backing up stuff at school in about '97, finding them in a 10 pack for $20 was a steal. That's why TG/PCE and Sega CD games are unprotected.o.pwuaioc wrote:What's the skinny on no copyright protection? Ah, so no "DRM". But they are legally protected by copyright law, right?
