The Wrestling Thread
Re: The Wrestling Thread
I must say, CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler put on a great match tonight. They're my top two favorite wrestlers for a reason!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Watched Survivor Series, thought it was excellent! Dolphs match was great as usual, The Rock's promo was just classic Rock, thought the Survivor Series match was good although I am not a fan of Orton. I want the heels to actually be a threat and you have Sheamus and Orton just bulldozing through the opponents. Barrett needs to be built up, how can he go from main eventing with Cena to looking after jokers like Hunico.
Skipped the womens match as soon as I saw Eve Torres. Don't get how she is constantly in the main event picture, she had a personality bypass.
Punk v Del Rio was a good match and I actually shouted when Punk got the 3 count lol.
Henry Big Show made me feel like I was watching an 80s match with two beasts slogging it out. Seeing as I was streaming through megavideo I skipped to the Rock Cena v IT DOESNT MATTER. All I can say is that growing up The Rock was my idol. And now he is back I am hyped up for wrestling! Loved that Cena got booed, was expecting a heel turn but they seem to be dragging it out. Rock looked in better shape than he was 10 years ago!! That fishermans suplex with a bridge had me like
He pulled out more moves in that match than Cena has in the last 5 years. I think the only one he didn't do was the samoan drop. R Truth and Miz are awesome (sorry) but they need to get rid of that awful rap entrance. Only Road Dogg could pull that shit off.
Overall though I felt it was a 9/10 event, but that's from a Rock junkie.
As I'm in UK I'll watch Raw today, hopefully it carries over the momentum!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I love the Rock as much as the next guy, but I just can't shake the undeniable feeling that he's more of a gimmick nowadays than a superstar..
Rock retired while he was on top, and he went into Hollywood where he's done well for himself. Once in awhile he'll shoot a promo or, now, wrestle on certain big-draw PPV cards. Why? Because the WWE needs PPV sales desperately and it means they can only achieve those numbers by bringing back one of the biggest Pro Wrestling icons of the last decade. Honestly, if I were any one of the writers on creative backstage, I'd be ashamed of myself - that the only way to gain any semblance of attention to the product is by calling on retired names that have since moved on..
Next to CM Punk, what does Wrestlemania have going for it this year? Rock v. Cena, Undertaker v. ? (if they're smart - Mark Henry,) and whomever Punk ends up carrying that month.
Vince McMahon is damn lucky TNA sucks as bad as it does right now - because if there was any other brand on television doing anything resembling a quality show week after week, WWE would be hard pressed to have viewers.
...or followers on Twitter for that matter.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I do agree, when The Rock came back for Wrestlemania I went nuts, as I did when Booker T was at the Rumble. But neither are regular fixtures in the ring so it's kind of disappointing. But it shouldn't be about them. I almost think The Rock is back to help sales, but also to build some of the current stars. He was selling moves from R Truth and I notice how Cena never really sells moves well. I know he came back to put over Goldberg, the Hurricane, and then with Foley he helped put over Orton/Batista in Evolution. But I hope he doesn't take the attention away from the others. Which he currently is.Rurouni_Fencer wrote:I love the Rock as much as the next guy, but I just can't shake the undeniable feeling that he's more of a gimmick nowadays than a superstar..

The Twitter nonsense I don't understand. How does that help your viewers by telling them to go on Twitter rather than watch your product? I get that they want people talking about the product and introducing new viewers, but they need to look at why they have lost viewers first.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
It really is sad what a joke Cena is becoming. When your top face gets booed so much that you have to keep acknowledging it on tv, that's lame. Truth and Miz buried him on mic on Raw.
Punk's mic work is awesome, did you guys hear his comment about the title being a hot potato? He's the only one who seems genuinely clued in
Loved seeing Big Show become HBK at Survivor Series with the super kick and elbow from the top rope. Course, that was really a Savage tribute and that's pretty awesome. That was my holy shit moment of the show.
I guess I'm the only one who thought Truth's pigeon promo was hilarious
Ziggler is Mr. Perfect 2.0, whether he admits it or not. At this point, I think he's intentionally channeling Perfect, but doesn't want to come out and say it. This is the guy who should have been holding the belt and feuding with Punk. What a waste that Del Rio title run was. It did NOTHING for Punk. I wish this guy would fail a wellness taste and go away. Between his boring ass and Mr. Botchtastic Sin Cara(who did a great job ruining the Survivor Series match he was in), I'm officially sick of WWE's efforts at drawing in more Mexican fans. Whenever WWE specifically targets a foreign demographic, we get crap. Great Kali anyone?
Wow, Kevin Nash sure is a whiny bitch
The Rock is awesome. Nuff said. Possibly the only "old timer" whose still got it. At this point, the guy could justifiably say that he's the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be

Re: The Wrestling Thread
^ Truth was the other person in the Evan Bourne suspension - but since he was slated for the main event this past Sunday, they held off.
I caught the PPV Sunday - outside of Cena looking like a gigantic pussy, it was booked pretty well. If you thought Super Cena was bad, Super ROCK is 10x worse. I don't think he took more than one bump. There was no finish either - very anti climatic. Then the Rock Bottom after was telegraphed and even Cena mouthed "now watch me, i'll turn around and he'll rock bottom me" - and then he was dropped on his tailbone. Horrible drawn out finish and since they are not building to a Cena heel turn with it - it was a waste.
A Perfectplex!That fishermans suplex with a bridge

I'm convinced that the WWE gets off on NOT giving the viewers what they want...retrosportsgamer wrote:Horrible drawn out finish and since they are not building to a Cena heel turn with it - it was a waste.

I'm starting to hate that Wellness Program. Seriously, wrestlers take drugs. Let's just accept that and move on.sevin0seven wrote:i thought it was hilarious as well. but in WWE news today..Gamerforlife wrote:I guess I'm the only one who thought Truth's pigeon promo was hilarious
