Hey, this question is for collector's.
What do you collectors out there think of Player's Choice rereleases? The changed artwork bothers me some, but I dunno. Would you search out complete non-PC titles that you already own?

Re: Player's Choice Titles
If it was a favorite, yes.
If its just some game that I play occassionally, then probably not.
I might consider specifically going for Player's Choice if any content was added.
But yeah, if I have a choice, and there is no difference, I usually go for originals. But like I said, I would only replace games I already had with originals if I really liked them.

Re: Player's Choice Titles
I'd much prefer non-PC titles, but for some of the pricier ones, I'm ok with them if they're a really good deal. I probably won't be, for example, switching out Super Metroid any time soon.

The best version is not always the first edition
I brought this up a while back, in the case of PS2 Greatest Hits games which have additional content right on the disc. I wouldn't shy away from the Players Choice yellow label without researching a title. Overall the Players Choice is the newest release with possibly extra features and fixes. Sometimes this could be a negative, a feature might be removed such as the Coffee Mod in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas or possibly hidden unlocks in Pikmin.

Re: Player's Choice Titles
I really wish I could say I have no problems with PC titles but it bothers me if it affects how the end label looks. I really dislike the green stripe on PS1 games and have avoiding games at a good price because of it. I'm not sure why but I think I just like to see my games look uniform. However, I do like how Sony is starting to make the Greatest Hits designation a front cover only thing and generally don't care if cartridge games have a Player's Choice designation or not.

I think this is true for quite a few games. Devil May Cry 3, Midnight Club 3, and Silent Hill2 come to mind.CRTGAMER wrote:The best version is not always the first edition

Although you can get the DMC3 special edition out of the ps2 3-pack of the series, and then you get the bonus content without that annoying GH logo.
Re: Player's Choice Titles
Good question and one I've been asking myself over and over recently and was looking for more discussion on. I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied with the choice, but ultimately I went with 'greatest hits' for about 5 xbox 360 titles this month and also Super Paper Mario and Punchout! on Wii. I'm seriously considering adding SMG 1 and Warioware Smooth moves (it if arrives) to my collection in the Selects range as well.
It was interesting to see that Xbox uses black boxes for Platinum Hits versus the green (at least for Japanese releases). Also, I appreciate that Nintendo (at least NoA) simply adds a badge to the spine and nothing more jarring for a shelved display.
Does anyone else think that in doing so they are if nothing else putting off disc rot by a couple years?

With current ripping and archiving methods, disc rot is (or at least should be) a thing of the past.k.vlaros wrote:Does anyone else think that in doing so they are if nothing else putting off disc rot by a couple years?
As for Player's Choice/Platinum/Greatest Hits... I guess it depends on the game. However, I refuse to have a Player's Choice GameCube game. My entire collection is black label and until recently I had only 1 PC label. I finally got a legit black label to replace the ugly yellow case that stuck out like a sore thumb.
edit:
That should read something like "disc rot shouldn't even be a thing to worry about".
You get what I mean.

Re: Player's Choice Titles
I'd be fine with it if it were just a little box on the front of the case that says "Player's Choice!" or something like that. I'm not a fan of the different colored labels etc. so I avoid them.
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Player's Choice Titles
I wouldn't mind if the Player's Choice version had minor changes to the box art or spine, but most of them look extremely horrible. If I knew that the Player's Choice version had extra content or bug fixes, I would get it. Otherwise I avoid them completely. The few Player's Choice games I have bother me whenever I look at them.
Have you guys ever seen the Minna no Osusume Collection titles for the Japanese Wii? Holy shit, it looks bad. No wonder these games are much cheaper than the normal versions. They are ugly. I don't care about saving $30. It's just not worth it.

Really Nintendo? What the fuck were you thinking? This is disgusting. (>_<)
