I don't think failing to sell into the mass market should label a game console, or more specifically its game library, a failure. That moniker should only be leveled on a platform based on the quality of its games. Really, what do we care if the company that made the console lost money if we can play dozens or hundreds of games we find worth playing?
Though be February of 1994 it was down to around 400 dollars, same price as the yet released Saturn. Which was something the 3DO company could not control, plus the very low licensing fee's for publisher's did not leave them with much to offset the problem with. Though the Publishers were still ungrateful. Do agree with the second part though.

BoneSnapDeez wrote:"Failure" can mean many different things. The 3DO, TG16/CD, and Sega CD were failures in this country despite having libraries of excellent games. They were victims of poor marketing and pricing issues.

On the other hand, the Jaguar/CD, 32X, and CD-I have bad games (or inferior ports, at least) and bad hardware. Absolute failure across the board.
exactly. Though I still like the Jaguar for some reason.

Yup, and out of the consoles mentioned so far in this thread, I find it to be the most underrated. But I could just be crazy as I actually enjoy playing Sewer Shark.

Concerning the 3DO, do we have a "best of" 3DO thread? I have very few 3DO games, and it's starting to collect dust.

I'd put After Burner Complete, Space Harrier, Virtua Racing Deluxe, Shadow Squadron, and Virtua Fighter on 32X up against the top five games on any platform. Their quality and uniqueness among among consoles are second to none. I'd also put Need for Speed, Total Eclipse, Road Rash, Star Control II and Star Fighter up against any other platform's top games, though aside from Star Control II and Star Fighter these are pretty mainstream genres.

Then the likes of T-Mek, Tempo, Blackthorne, Mortal Kombat II, Knuckles Chaotix, Doom, Kolibri, Star Blade, Samurai Shodown, Super Street Fighter II X, Flashback, Shockwave, Crash N Burn, Rebel Assault, Wing Commander III, and others don't hurt my feelings at all.

It may be subjective that these are great games, but that assertion can be made, and more specifically the individual qualities of each game can be pointed out quite objectively.

I have only recently acquired a Jaguar, and Iron Soldier, Doom, Alien Versus Predator, Flashback, Tempest 2000, Cybermorph and Ultra Vortek. While I don't find these games as compelling as some, or better than the games I mentioned above, I can still argue for their unique qualities.

I would have a much easier time saying that the V-Tek V-Smile is a failure than any of these systems.
