Skyward Sword, thoughts so far?

Post by jay_red »

Im surprised there wasnt a dedicated thread for this yet ( I checked the first couple pages and didnt see one specifically about playing the game) so I thought I would get it started!

I picked it up this morning as soon as Best Buy opened, and was treated to a cool bonus, a free $10 gift card with purchase of either the game only or the LE bundle!

Anyway, I got home and played it for about 3 hours and man is it awesome! The story feels more involved and epic than previous entries. The controls are pretty impressive, and the 1 to 1 movement of the sword is great. Enemies really take some thought to take down, no random button mashing or flailing of the Wii controller here!

The game looks pretty good, playing it with component cables on my 42 inch lcd, and the art style really suits the game. I am just outside the first temple, and decided it was a good break point since I have to get ready for a family gathering later. But lets hear your guy's thoughts!

I love it and I'm only in the first dungeon! And I don't have any problems with the graphics at all but the textures and such look worse then a lot of early PS2 games even and the animation in wind waker were far better... Seriously what is up with that? I love the art style and it's not going to hinder the experience for me, but I don't understand why there are so many jaggies and muddy textures when i have seen the Wii do so much better and this is their big game. Don't get it...Mario galaxy 2 looks freaking amazing.

Don't let the title mislead, there's some discussion in there, too!

Also, you mention button mashing to fight, does that mean you can play on the Classic Controller too?

No I was just making a point on how it controls, you need the wii motion plus to play, no classic controller.

im torn in this game i love the style it feels like windwaker in the sky but the controls are what is killing me, why cant they add the option to use the classic controller i never liked wii controls and i have very few wii games because of this i am saddened that this is the direction that nintendo is taken. my wrist is aching already.

I feel the same way! I'm one more copy of the game they would have sold if they included an option to use the Classic Controller.

I understand where you guys are coming from but honestly you need to try these controls before you knock them.

Good point but unfortunately not all of us know someone who owns a copy. A rather expensive demo...

Maybe GameStop will have Zelda in a Wii Demo Station.
