This is why I like that the new Wii dropped Gamecube capability, Nintendo had to invest money for the new model. Bad that it lost Gamecube but good that this shows Nintendo is not just counting on the 3DS and Wii U. My hope is that Wii and Wii U both can maintain online functions, maybe handshake in sharing online gaming. At least for the short term new games will still come out for the Wii.

The Nintendo Selects do take time, but I think they are based on total sales and of course time on the Market. Once Skyward Sword which will sell like crazy makes the mark it will get the Select tag, so I can wait.

A good point, I hate Remote wagging!
One thing I did find on Gamecube Windwalker is the aim for Hookshots was sometimes a pain. Bump the Analog just right to lock into a target. A Wii Remote would have made this easier with an instant aim and shoot. Each game has its advantages and disadvantages I guess.
