I don't judge people based on their gaming taste or anything at all, but it can be a little frustrating if you're trying to talk games with someone and they give you blank stares when you mention that you picked up a few Saturn games recently.

It's the same for me when people bring up metal around me.

That sucks. I find very few games unfun, unless they're boring or broken. But if I do find myself not having fun playing, I just play something different. I would, and have, gotten extremely bored to tears playing big name games over and over again. There's a reason, despite my brother's insistence to continue playing only Madden 94, that I would also play Ghouls and Ghosts, Mega Man X, and Sonic instead.

Yeah. There just aren't many games I find fun any more. They take such a time commitment and really never go anywhere. After you've beaten a couple hundred games they just start to feel really derivative. Too many end really crappy. Very few explore mature themes or ideas. On that, too many game makers think mature just means cuss words and blood.

A couple years back Cave Story rekindled my interest in games altogether. The only games I've really felt the magic with in maybe 3 years have been Tactics Ogre: LUCT, MML, and Klonoa (especially in the post game and with the challenge stages for some reason).

Going to wait a long while before I play this one. Some people just don't like the things you like. Based on the Metacritic score, this is an extreme minority. Why complain? Just play a game or something.
The game is about as far away from a 'zelda formula' as you can probably get. Yes the same old tropes apply but the way the game goes about introducing them is completely novel. It's actually refreshing to go "oh, it's this puzzle again" but your instinct is completely wrong. Almost like it's teasing long time Zelda fans with these puzzles that have been completely reinvented. The game just completely surprises you at every single turn.

Anybody complaining about the controls just haven't got used to it. You seriously can't just waggle and hope in this game. You need to use measured controlled movements in order to be successful. Nothing makes this more clear until you face the first proper boss. Just spamming actions gets you nowhere. You actually have to think about where you're pointing your sword and how you're going to strike in order to win. The combat actually reminds me of Dark Souls in the way that you have to size your opponents up and think about which way you're going to strike your sword. The game WILL punish you for spamming attacks on all but the most basic of enemies.

Even the score is absolutely perfect. Probably one of the best game scores out there. Definitely the best Zelda score in the series. I keep getting distracted by the music so often where I'll just doss around listening to the music.

Simply put the game is just a joy to play. The best 3D Zelda since OOT (however I'm giving Majora's Mask another chance so that opinion might change soon).
If you're that convinced the game is different and special I might give it a shot over Christmas break.

I've played most if not all the big blockbusters this year. They are ALL absolutely blown out of the water with this game. The only title that even comes close is Uncharted 3. It actually makes me a little sad that this game just isn't going to get the recognition from your average Joe gamer that it needs. I've put 20 hours into the game so far and I've loved every single hour of it. I honestly don't feel like I've put even a half of that into the game which is crazy. These days I'm lucky if I get 6 hours out of a game. Uncharted 3 gave me 8 hours and that was only because I was playing on Hard and it kicked my ass (unfairly, might I add) on a few certain sections of the game. Even then after about 5 ish hours I was hoping that the game would be over soon. After 20 hours of Skyward Sword? I'm hoping it NEVER ends. Seriously. I haven't had this much fun and enjoyment out of a game since maybe Demon Souls or perhaps even OOT?

Actually, fuck it. I'm in love with this game. Few games have ever gripped me to the point where I WISH for more time in the day to play. I wish I was 10 years old again with all the time in the world to make my way through LTTP. Playing it non-stop just so I can be that smug little bastard that tells all your friends how to beat the ice palace. The entire game oozes passion. You can tell from every single second of gameplay that this is a love poem to all of the Zelda fans out there. I wouldn't even go as far as to say this is fan service. This is just the vision and creativity of a team that CARES. Lavishing hours of creativity on even the most basic of features. It's the sort of game that dares you to open up and love it completely like an innocent child. The game is every much a love story between Zelda and Link as it is between the developers and the unfaltering love their fan base bestows upon this long running series.

I LOVE this game.

That definitely sounds like the kind of game I could use. I hope I like it as much as you do!

Damn. I might just hold off buying a PS3 so I can play this first. Great post.
