I just call them casual gamers. Some casual gamers only play stuff like Wii Sports and Angry Birds, and other casual gamers only play Call of Duty and Madden. There is a big difference between those types of games, but it's all casual gaming to me.
Like BoneSnapDeez said, these people don't even know what the Sega Saturn is.
Gamespot gives Skyward Sword 7.5/10

Sounds refreshing!BoneSnapDeez wrote:Simply calling yourself a "gamer" is like saying "I like music".

This is how I look at it actually and it makes more sense in a way. I consider "hardcore gamers" people that know about games in general not just the COD's and Madden yearly release type of games and shit that has the budget to get press.Inazuma wrote:I just call them casual gamers. I guess the irritating thing is the idea that casual games or games that "bros" like=bad game or game that a well-rounded gamer with a historical appreciation for the medium shouldn't find compelling.
There's a sentiment, sometimes explicit and sometimes implicit, that if you enjoy Halo, Madden, COD, etc. then you somehow don't really understand what gaming can really be. Or somethng like that. Normally I wouldn't really give a shit, but when the big titles come out at the end of the year this kind of rhetoric always cranks up around here, and it can be frustrating to wade through.

I agree. I consider myself a (sigh) "hardcore gamer" but I find things like Madden and even FPS titles I don't understand totally compelling withing the gaming landscape.dsheinem wrote:I guess the irritating thing is the idea that casual games or games that "bros" like=bad game or game that a well-rounded gamer with a historical appreciation for the medium shouldn't find compelling.

Hardcore gamers aren't force to dislike Madden and e.g. CoD. I think the definition is liking more, though.noiseredux wrote:I agree. People are tripping. I don't give a crap if someone tells me they're a hardcore gamer. I'm much more interested in their specific taste in games. I try not to think worse of people because of the games they like. It isn't cool to be an elitist, and that's something I had to get over.
Those people who only play CoD and Madden seem to have something up on me. That is, whenever I see them they seem to be having a helluva good time just playing games. That's something getting harder and harder for me.
