Marathoning

Post by Rokogu »

My friend and I have started to marathon some games every time we hang out. We've marathoned Luigi's Mansion twice(trying to get an S rank) andMario 3 on NES, although he did most of the playing on that one, I suck at that game. Anway do you guys have games you love to marathon?
PS: Sorry if this thread altrady exists, I didnt feel like looking through a million threads to find.

never done one. I doubt I'd be in the shape for it anyway. Not that I'm "out of shape" or anything, but just running has never been my strong point.

What exactly are we talking about? Playing games for really long periods of time? Longest I ever played in a 24 hour period was probably 12 hours, with several breaks for meals and whatnot. The game was Tales of Symphonia. My brother does those crazy 20 hour WoW binges, I don't know how that's even possible.

I did run an actual marathon once. Shit got ugly fast.

According to Twin Galaxies, it's not a marathon unless you play for at least 24 hours straight on one credit (so in the case of consoles, no game over).

So I kinda doubt you actually marathon. :P

Ok sorry, i guess i should have been more specific. For me anyway, marathoning is when you go through a game in one sitting

Ooooohhhh well I've definitely done that with Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country. Good times. Such a thing is pretty much impossible to do with RPGs given their length, but I think I once finished Chrono Trigger in two sittings.

Well this guy i work with says that he's beaten FFVII in one sitting but i find that extremely hard to believe, apperently he's done that too with FFX. I think he's full of it.

My cousin and I did this a few months ago with an Ocarina of Time 3 heart run, and we had a good time. We've also done Mega Man X and Super Mario Bros 3 in the past, and we're thinking about doing one soon with Majora's Mask or A Link to the Past. It's definitely fun, but not the sort of thing i would enjoy doing constantly.

I dunno, I bet those games can be beat in 15 hours or so (probably less) if you don't grind or do any optional quests. So I guess that could be a feasible sitting, if you have the endurance. The materia system in VII can be exploited pretty easily too once you've become familiar with it. I've heard of people finishing Earthbound in 6 hours or so.
