DC or Skies of Arcadia Disc Problem?

Post by xraydash »

So I'm 18:45 into Skies of Arcadia (Lost City of Rixis) and can't get any farther. The battle sequence for random encounters refuses to load all the way. Here's what happens: the screen "disintegrates" into the spinning battle stage, then Vyse, Aika, and Fina appear one by one. Normally Drachma appears fourth and then the enemies but instead the camera keeps spinning around the stage and nothing more happens. This had been happening off and on for the last three hours of gameplay but by restarting (and wasting lots of my time- save points are few and far between in the dungeons- grrrrr!) I was able to move on. Now I'm just stuck.

I should mention it is an original SOA disc and I get the same results on two different Dreamcasts. One seems to read the disc better than the other but I can't get past this particular point on either of them. (The one DC was "stuck" at another point but my second one got past it.) There are light scratches on the disc but it has been cleaned. I cleaned the lens on each machine too. I've also never had problems with any game, burns or originals, on either one.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? It must be a problem with the disc. Any suggestions? Or am I just out of luck?

try a burned copy. if this problem was on a pressed cd, they might've fixed it. or look for a patch to fix the iso...

Good suggestion. I'm on it now at UG. Hopefully it'll work with my save.

If it doesn't I think I'll bite the bullet and buy the Gamecube version. Unless someone wants to lend me their disc 1. :)

It wasn't at the same spot in the game, but I had a SoA disc that had similar issues.
I just had to buy a new one.
Problem with the ripped is that I think it's a PAL version and the saves don't work between the versions.

I ended up buying a different copy of the game. Someone on ebay had a discs-only auction and I won it for a reasonable (to me anyway) $17.50 shipped. Got them today and wouldn't you know there was a problem. The discs were in one of those plastic double cd cases and the seller just stuck that in a yellow bubble wrap envelope. Sometime in transit the envelope was crushed and one of the discs was cracked in three places.

The good news is that it was disc two that was ruined. The other disc is fine and I happily picked up where I left off a few months ago. Hopefully the original disc two I have is problem-free and I can play through this game without buying it three times!

I'm still waiting to hear back from the seller. I did take a picture to show him/her the damage...
