Witch's Wish mini review

Post by Satoshi_Matrix »

I listed this in the top 100 DS games thread, but I figured this is a better, most permanent home for it. I also wanted to prove that no, I've not stopped reviewing games! The Top 100 NES/Famicom game list has taken way longer to finish than I had initially intended, so until that's finished there won't be any proper reviews on my blog. But for now, here's one I want to share with you guys.

A female friend of mine introduced me to this one, and I have to say that I like it despite it clearly not being intended for grown men

This game is ridiculously cute. You take the role of a very cute blue haired little girl named Vicky whose one wish is to become a witch and use magic to help people in need. She's very poor, and only rich girls can go to magic school. Only after meeting a mysterious white robed girl named Tanya does her fortunes begin to change.

The game is mostly a story driven text adventure that borrows elements from a simple RPG. It's filled with an almost exclusively female cast of talking heads with a story filled with dialogue about the virtues of friendship, understanding and the evils of greed and lust for power.

If you want to play perhaps the cutest game ever, or just have a loli fetish, give this one a try. If Vicky's smile hasn't totally melted your face within the first few minutes of the game, there's something wrong with you. Dad's should buy it for their daughters and also secretly for themselves.

For the true otaku experience, play the Japanese version, Majo ni Naru. The original has adorable voice acting throughout the whole game, plus an original soothing j-pop opening. The English release, by Natsume is more in line with their other girl-friendly games like Harvest Moon or Rune Factory, though they weren't the ones to make it.

I have this!

A couple things worth mentioning:
- Only the loli art looks decent. I believe another artist drew the townspeople, who looked ugly as hell. The clash of art styles bothered me like nothing else.
- The game is easy, but there are some puzzling elements. Like, I remember one area where you had to light a torch and only the level 2 fire magic would work. It's instinctual to try your current magic (level 3), but that does nothing. There are a couple other scenarios that were just as strange and non-intuitive.
- You have to use the stylus very frequently.

Despite the flaws, I'd recommend it overall. Definitely an interesting experience and one of the best kiddie games on the DS (certainly better than all the career simulators and whatever other crap they market to kids). Anyway, good review!

All valid points, though the non lolis characters are so minor their art being different/bad doesn't really matter.

Another important thing to point out is that you can only save in the middle of and at at the end of chapters. Some chapters can take anywhere from 20-30 minutes to complete, so you'll be unable to save for long stretches of time. Its best to plan out your play sessions.

For normal people, don't let all this talk about lolis scare you away - this isn't some kind of softcore porn. These lolis are not for the otaku crowd, but intended to be role models for actual little girls, otaku love for lolis not withstanding.

maybe you should make a thread about games for girls that have a wider appeal than their target demgraphic?

It would make an interesting thread! Games for your little sister?
