Love that game. The voice effects when Venom showed up I thought was cool back then, too. It was in my local theater up until a year ago when they remodeled the place. It's a shame it's gone now.pakopako wrote:I still like the Spiderman arcade game with its zooming effects and the team of Spidey and Black Cat. (Hawkeye and Namor were... also included.)

Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, I got into this by virtue of the fact its animations contained a lot of what was to go on and form the Capcom vs Marvel series, but the game itself just reeks of 'Nintendo Hard without cause'.
Re: Best Spiderman/Marvel Games?
Ugh, Separation Anxiety is so boring, the sprites look better than Maximum Carnage's, but it's one of the dullest beat 'em ups since Final Fight - very limited in attacks and too many enemies spawn.
Re: Best Spiderman/Marvel Games?
Hmm I've been looking for Separation Anxiety recently coz it looked fun and I wanted a new 2 player beat-em-up for the old sega. After reading these comments I'm going to wait until i see it super cheap. I never got anywhere in Maximum Carnage as a kid and as an adult I haven't had the patience yet. When do you get to be Venom?

Maximum Carnage (Genesis/SNES)
Seperation Anxiety (Genesis/SNES)
Xmen 2 (Genesis)
Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade/Genesis/SNES)
Xmen the Arcade game
Spiderman 1 & 2 (PS1, Dreamcast)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)
Xmen Legends 1 & 2 (PS2, Gamecube, Xbox)
Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects (PS2, GC, Xbox)
That's just off the top of my head since I'm not in front of my collection. I also want to get Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions, looks pretty BA!

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm telling you right now, avoid this on the SNES. I can't say how the Genesis port holds up, but the SNES port is awful.Evildeadmanwalking77 wrote: Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade/Genesis/SNES)

Re: Best Spiderman/Marvel Games?
Another good Marvel game is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is pretty much the best Wolverine game you'll ever play. The best comic book games really make you feel like you are the character, and this game really makes you feel like the ruthless, brutal, fear inducing, unstoppable force that is Wolverine. He could easily rip Kratos a new one and this game shows it
Looks like Evildeadmanwalking77 beat me in mentioning the X-Men Legends games. They are also good and laid the groundwork for the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. The first X-Men Legends game is great at making the X-Men feel like a real team. You get big rewards for using different people's mutant powers simultaneously to create, "combos". You get even further rewards for having Storm or Cyclops on your team because they provide leadership bonuses.
X-Men Legends II toned down the teamwork aspect, but is still fun. There are bug/glitchs in the game that you can exploit to make some characters, particularly Nightcrawler, incredibly powerful. In fact, I always tell people that if you use the right setup, Nightcrawler is every bit as badass in that game as he is in the opening White House scene for the X2: X-Men United movie. He even has a useful support ability that allows him to grab a teammate who is near death and teleport him/her to safety. That game is great for Nightcrawler fans
It probably goes without saying but Capcom made some great fighting games featuring Spider-Man and other Marvel characters. There's the arcade version of Marvel Super Heroes(ported to the Sega Saturn), Marvel vs Street Fighter and the Marvel vs Capcom series
For another really cool comic book game that isn't related to Marvel, you can try out The Darkness. That has some of the best storytelling I've ever seen in a game and is getting a sequel

Re: Best Spiderman/Marvel Games?
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions is amazing. As far as graphics go, best Spider-Man game ever made. But, I still love Spider-Man on the PlayStation.
Dimensions lets you play Spidey in 4 distinct modes, which all feel like four different games. Regular Spidey plays a lot like the "Ultimate" game, Spidey 2099 offers super sleek graphics, Noir Spidey is plays very much like Batman AA, and the dark suit Spidey plays a lot like the "Ultimate" version, but with more angst.
I was a little ho-hum with this game for the first few levels, but after a few hours in I was hooked, or webbed, or whatever. Not sure of it's retail value now, but if I saw it for $20, I'd pick it up.

Indeed. I own it because I remember liking the arcade as a kid, and I was completely disappointed. The graphics take a huge hit in the SNES port, and the hit detection is ridiculous.Ack wrote:Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm telling you right now, avoid this on the SNES.
