A Dreamcast controller :) The only thing I would change about it is the space between the triggers and the VMU slots, you don't really notice this unless you play long racing games like Test Drive Le Mans, but your fingers get cramped in that small area.

take the xbox 360 controller, give it a snes D-pad and ps2 dual shock style face buttons (the shape buttons) because they feel more comfortable for extended button mashing.

for all things 2d, I think the snes controller is perfect. 3d gaming I adore the the 360, mind you, as everybody else says, the d pad needs work. Handheld, the neo-geo pocket color has my favorite analog stick of any system, console or otherwise. So i guess, neo geo analog for arcade games, snes for 2d platformer sort of things, and 360 for the current gen, with the snes d-pad.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

It's not an analogue stick. It's a micro switched digital joystick. It's still awesome though. I've got a PS1 pad with a similar micro-switched mini-joystick instead of a d-pad. It was awesome for fighting games back in the day.

Really?

I always thought the Dreamcast controller wasn't that good. It feels very light and cheap, it's not the most comfortable to hold, the cord that connects it to the Dreamcast is located at the bottom of the controller instead of the top, analog stick is also uncomfortable to control with, and below that is an ugly Nintendo looking Dpad, which should have been replaced with a Saturn/Genesis type Dpad. The VMU screen showing up in the middle of the controller was cool but makes the whole thing feel very fragile.

Personally I think the Saturn design and Dpad would be good with the now common 4-button design you see on the Dreamcast, 360, and Playstation controller.

NES controller with a couple shoulder buttons.

(I love its simplicity)

I still say a hybrid of the SixAxiS and Saturn model 1 controller would be kikass

My ideal game controller would be like the Dreamcast controller, but the D-pad would resemble the one on the Master System, the controller would be wireless, and the buttons would be bigger, like the ones on the genesis controller.

I would take my DC controller, shit on it, and throw it in the trash since it is damn near the worst controller ever made!

I would then take my 360 controller, pluck out the d-pad... eat it, then replace it with a Saturn or Genesis d-pad. I would also squeeze in 2 additional buttons on the face (like a saturn pad, only with closer proximity), which inexcusively has not been done on modern controllers. The 2 additional face buttons would be programmable to whatever buttons desired.

Screw you. The DC controller was the absolute best controller ever made. It fit a player's grip perfectly, it was lightweight, and the VMU was a great idea.
