don't ignore Streets of Rage 1! Everyone seems to prefer the sequels but I actually favour the first game for whatever reason.

Just chiming in to say Contra Hard Corps is an absolute must play. There are lots of greats for the Genesis, a lot of of them have been mentioned. Be sure to look into Shining Force, Thunder Force, and Phantasy Star.
Agreed, those Jurassic Park games were pretty awesome.o.pwuaioc wrote:I don't think Lion King and Jurassic Park get enough love.

Wow, I have a lot of games to play/catch up on.
Looks like I'll have to try out Castlevania Bloodlines, Gunstar Heroes and Contra Hard Corps first. Thanks for all the titles - let me know if there is any other hidden treasures someone missed.

I second Toejam and Earl, the Ecco the Dolphin games, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and The Lion King. The Lion King is a true platformer and just breathtakingly beautiful, in my opinion.
Pakopako mentioned the X-Men games, of which I was going to recommend X-Men 2: Clone Wars. Depending on which X-Man you choose at the beginning of a level (and you do get to re-choose each time), different paths and tactics become accessible or inaccessible based on your powers. Nightcrawler can scale walls and climb across ceilings, which is handy and gets you to strange places, but Wolverine slowly regenerates health, which is handy too. It's a neat platformer.
I remember loving Mickey Mania, which was very imaginative and challenging. I've actually been meaning to buy it, since I always borrowed it from a friend back in the day.
I also discovered a gem called Wiz n' Liz, which I'd seen advertised in Sega Visions as a child but never bought until a month or so ago. It's hard to explain, and not exactly a platformer, but it's frenetic fun and very, very addictive. It was done by the same company that brought us Lemmings, so you know it'll be creative.

^Aww, you reminded me I still can't find my copy of X-Men 2: The Clone Wars. I freaking loved playing that game as Nightcrawler.
I will second the Lion KIng and Jurassic Park and also recommend Aladdin (different than the SNES version)
I also have to recommend Vectorman 1 &2, and the Genesis 6-Pak (Sonic, Streets of Rage, Revenge of Shinobi, Columns, Super Hang on, and Golden Axe in one cart for cheap).

Those are actually two games I have played for Genesis. ToeJam and Earl I rented.. and it was pretty fun. Ecco of course is very atmospheric, but I didn't get too far. The game is so freakin hard!Key-Glyph wrote:I second Toejam and Earl, the Ecco the Dolphin games

Quackshot starring Donald Duck
Castle of Illusion with Mickey Mouse
World of Illusion with Mickey and Donald
Wonderboy 4
Apparently no love for Taz Mania (I used to love it back in the day, beating it once a day)
Moonwalker had some fun moves (although the "look for missing kids" thing gets old way too fast)
Marvel Land was pretty fun
Arrow Flash (Pretty cool horizontal shmup where you can choose to play as a mecha or a ship)
Thunder Force II (It got bigger and bigger with each release, but I still prefer the first one on genesis)

I'm a Nightcrawler snob too. I feel unfaithful if I pick a different character for a level.Czernobog wrote:I freaking loved playing that game as Nightcrawler.
I hope you find your copy!
