Great point! Based on Nintendo's own numbers, we can only conclude Nintendo's userbase for the GC was different than the other platforms... assuming users of those other platforms used component cables to a higher degree. So maybe it would be better to say Nintendo was ahead of its customer base.Redifer wrote:How so? Both the PS2 and Xbox offered component video, multichannel digital sound and the ability to play some games in high definition (above 480p).k.vlaros wrote:Great shots. The color is what jumps out at me. Nintendo discontinued the digital port on the GC because fewer than 1% of GC owners ever used it. And that was an early change, meaning actual component users were much less than 1% of the customer base. Good grief! In a way, this is one instance of Nintendo being ahead of its time.
I am glad I have the Gamecube component cable. But was irked to discover that the audio is also delivered digitally to that port and could have been included on that same cable, but nooooo, Nintendo made you keep another set of cables hooked up to the system just for audio.

I find a large number of Gamecube games look by far better than Wii games, I put it to the system being so amazing when it was out, people were trying to push the console. However with the Wii being so weak compared to what it was competing against, developers just did not bother. Why push a system and put in all that extra work, just for the game to look 5 years old.
The reason my Wii will always remain plugged in, even after I get a WiiU, will be to play Gamecube games via Component.

From what I can tell, the output quality is identical. I'd rather use a Gamecube than a Wii, however, because at least with the Gamecube I don't need to power up some battery-operated remote wand thingy just to start the damn game. Instead, the GC boots straight to the game! If I could control the Wii menu screen and start the game with the GC controller attached (which people should REALLY be able to do) then I wouldn't complain so much.Gnashvar wrote:So is the component output of GameCube games on the Wii similar, same or better than the on a Game Cube?

Eventhough gamecube was able to do 480p with those ninendo cables. Isnt it just easier to play gc games on wii with 480p option setup!? Overall the only thing i hate about the gc was small baby controller, try to compare it to the nes or gameboy's d pad. I do enjoy nintendo wii's dual analog controller, they made that right

Looks super, nice job.
I've used component cables on my 32" LCD and it didn't strike me as amazingly better than s-vid. However on the 50" plasma, it certainly is crisper and colors appear more refined and deeper.

Yeah its more accessible now and you still get the same results, I just have the Wii on another room.benderx wrote:Eventhough gamecube was able to do 480p with those ninendo cables. There's a lot of variables why that may be happening, from the type of component cables to how well your tv is at processing analog signals. Check if your TV set has a "Game Mode".mjmjr25 wrote:Looks super, nice job.

I definitely agree - I hate that. Nintendo should have included some sort of "Auto Play Gamecube Games" option in the system menu.Redifer wrote:at least with the Gamecube I don't need to power up some battery-operated remote wand thingy just to start the damn game.

You should also post some pictures comparing Gameboy advance games played in component to the standard composite. It's freaking amazing.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
