Emulation Laptop

Post by Geshmaal »

I've been considering getting a laptop for the purpose of gaming for a while. I'd like something with a lot of memory, a few USB ports for controllers, and I'd also like to to be able to play the occasional new game on decent settings with a decent framerate. Could someone point me in the direction of a laptop that could fulfill my gaming needs and still have a low pricetag? Also, I like in the UK, so I need a price in sterling and a delivery from somewhere relatively local. Thanks in advance :)

I just bought the cheapest Acer laptop I could find, and I'm emulating 8, 16, and 32bit machines on it at full speed. It doesn't take much power to do that.

My recent choice was the Dell XPS M1530. It's stylish, powerful, compact and loaded with features. Works perfectly for me for emulation ranging from 2600 right up to Dreamcast, and can play modern games well as well!

Totally agreed. I can remember in the 90's ago emulating, NES, SNES. GEN, and if anyone remembers the Rain and Callus Emulators before MAME.

I had a 250MHZ CPU, 128MB of RAM and had no issues at all. The res on that laptop was 1024x768 and was perfect.

If you are wanting to play modern games, then it's going to cost you a few grand for a good laptop. the Dell XPS is a great choice!!!

There was a fantastic deal on a Dell XPS on Slickdeals yesterday morning.
Sadly it was only offered with Vista Premium.

Looks like XPS is the way to go then! When I've googled it I've seen some priced around £500. Will these work with fairly recent games, or are they primarily a media kind of thing? Others I've seen for £1500 with better specs than my desktop, but the price is a bit much!
