Numbers etched into back label of SNES games?
Numbers etched into back label of SNES games?
After reading The Best Super Nintendo (SNES) Games Under $10 article I picked up a copy of F-Zero and and copy of Plok for $4.99 each. I noticed they have a number etched into the back label of the cartridge right next the the IMPORTANT text. My F-Zero cart has a 07 on it and Plok has a 34. I looked at the rest of my games and they all had numbers too in the same place. What do theses numbers mean?

It could be a production location, maybe the week produced. Not sure. If you look all Nintendo carts have this up through GBA. If there's a back label, it will be on there, for GB* carts it is obviously on the front. That's one way to help tell legit from fake portable carts.

I have yet to see confirmation of exactly what it means. It is clearly related to either the factory batch number or location.
If you ever see a letter along with the numbers, that is the ROM revision.

Lots of electronic things have numbers on them that are meaningless to the consumer. Don't worry about them.
