This reminds me, I've got to snap pictures of my Genmobile's innards for Hobie's sake.

Re: portable sega genesis
What does the Nomad go for and is it worth it? Do you get a decent battery life out of it in both rechargable and regular?
While I'm at it, does anyone know what the name of the portable NES system is and same questions apply as the Nomad? Thanks!

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Not so much as a design flaw - more like unnecessary force being applied when inserting or removing a cart. The only things flawed or (of course) sound emulation, and the crummy dpad (impossible to perform a Hadoken).dedalusdedalus wrote:You guys should consider the Genmobile design flaw that Hobie pointed out in this thread:

Nomad's rechargable batteries need to be re-celled but regardless I don't believe the life is very good. I just use an AC adapter with it.Evildeadmanwalking77 wrote:What does the Nomad go for and is it worth it? Do you get a decent battery life out of it in both rechargable and regular?
I bought mine a while back, it was part of a sega bundle that was 50ish IIRC. They are not terribly expensive.

The socket should be secured by more than just the soldered pins. Those tiny surface resistors shouldn't have been so close to the frame of the plug where they'd get sheared off if someone did push or pull too little hard. A little safety in case of over eagerness.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:Not so much as a design flaw - more like unnecessary force being applied when inserting or removing a cart.

I see. After taking it apart for the photos, I gave the cart slot a little stress test and it feels pretty solid. Did that picture help, btw?

I get a few hours out of my Nomad per charge. I have a modded LCD screen tho, so that makes a big difference.

Re: portable sega genesis
RetroGen and Genmobile are your best choices right now for portable clones. Both have pretty terrible sound but the games play fine. I prefer the slightly larger screen of the RetroGen but really the units are pretty identical except with the GenMobile having 15 built in ROMs, the RetroGen has its own games built in and all of them are very bad.
I have trouble playing the Majesco re-releases on them and some of the more graphics intensive games suffer a lot of slowdown. Other than that they're pretty dirt cheap and okay for quick play sessions.
