But I did have something to add: a succinct critique that would engender responses. The ensuing discussion about my original post that you yourself are participating in validates my choice to make it, and for that you have my thanks.
How did that happen? That just doesn't seem fair.

How is using some other device to play music and text your friends while you play a PC game technically different from using your computer to do so while playing a console on your TV? You're still switching back and forth between devices.

I guess I'm weird that when I'm playing a game I generally don't want to be pausing every 2 minutes to send messages to people. I usually set myself to away in IMs until I'm taking a break or done.
Actually, I tend not to much either. I think the distaste for not being able to use it is a hold-over from my schooldays

Ironically, you can do most of that in any game on steam, or launched through steam now. It has a built in chat feature and a webbrowser.

PC gaming is kind of an elephant in the room. It has some drawbacks, but it has the biggest library and can play damn near anything - legality aside, and PCs can be used for other things. One of the reason I love PC gaming is that if something breaks in my 360, odds are it is toast. If something breaks in my PC, I can get a replacement. That and lan parties. Either small house lan parties or meccas like Dreamhack with its over 13k attendance:
