Yeah. From the way the OP put it, I wouldn't suggest many rpgs in the first place. I know a lot of people find something to love in CT though, so who knows.

I actually really like SoM. I even quite enjoyed SoE. The games have a nice challenge to them.

I actually never knew that SoM was multi-player. I may have to track down a copy again.

Yeah, I seem to be the rare bigger SoM fan, but I agree that if you're not too big into JRPG's or want to give just a few a shot, Chrono Trigger and SoM are equally some of the best choices. I still love CT myself.

I love Evermore as well (goofy story aside) and especially Seiken Densetsu 3, I play that game like once yearly heh. So damn fun. 8)

I really need to get a repro cart of that. I've wanted to play it since the 90's, but I just don't enjoy emulators.

Might be time to hit the Ziggy store soon.

I prefer SoM's story and music, but other than that SD3 improves upon everything imaginable. No more charging either (my only complaint about SoM's combat), instead your hits just build up bars for special attacks. 6 choose-able characters, stat distribution upon level ups, 2 class changes for every character (6 different outcomes), exp is displayed when you kill enemies... etc, yeah. One of the best looking SNES games too graphically.

Easily one of the best. :D

People say this a lot, but I think it'd be kind of tedious for me, lol. I think I'd be a control freak in this kind of game. But anyways I've personally only played SoM solo, and I've played the game probably 5 times at least or something. Maybe a tad bit more than Chrono Trigger, I do personally like it more myself but most will probably favor Chrono Trigger.
If you play with two people who know what they're doing, it's a lot of fun.

I'd go further and say that I favor not only SoM's story and music, but also the graphics. Never cared for SD3's sprites at all.

kingmohd, if you like Zelda, go for Secret of Mana. If you're hesitant about RPGs, go Secret of Mana. Chrono Trigger is great for those who love turn based RPGs, but if you're not one of those, stick to Secret of Mana. It's the better game in my opinion.

If you like Zelda, go for Soul Blazer and then Terrinigma imo.

I think SoM is like a fusion of zelda and turn-based stuff like ct. More similar to star ocean or phantasia.

Man, snes rpgs were just too good

Gotta go in order: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and then Terranigma. :P

While I agree that the SB series was closer than SoM to Zelda, the only major difference was the extra characters and pausing action in order to select magic (which, in my opinion, isn't so different from pausing time to select a secondary item for Link).

Agreed.

I agree the SB trilogy is a bit more Zelda-ish.

All in all I think the SoM/Evermore/SD3 battle system is perfection, and I'm really sad it didn't really carry over into the PSX era. Legend of Mana is a tremendous step down from SoM/SD3 in my opinion.
