I really liked this game and have played through it 2 or 3 times, usually when I upgraded my PC and wanted to see how it looked after being able to bump settings up. Granted I did enjoy sneaking around in it. The only spots that were extremely difficult to me were the run from the waterfall jump to the downed helicopter, and the final 'arena' battle (to not give it away), both near the end of the game.

Those were the places that gave me the most trouble too. Apart from that I found it rather fair with it's difficulty.

My instinct is to Rambo my way through a game, guns blazing. This game punished me severely for that. I had to restart at checkpoints so many times. It was brutal. I had to quit multiple times because I was just too frustrated and tired of getting killed over and over while trying to make it to the next checkpoint. I think it ultimately made me a better FPS player though.
I think the graphics have held up really well over time. The AI is interesting, though flawed. As mentioned, the enemy sees you from a mile away and pumps you full of lead before you even know what's happening, but then there are other times you are right in their face and they don't seem to know it. What I liked about the AI though was they would use the environment to their advantage. I might shoot at a few soldiers and while one might stand his ground, another will run through a building or tunnel to flank me on the other side. That's smart stuff and in those moments they felt more like human opponents.
I also think the open world aspect of the game is cool, though it took awhile for me to get accustomed to it. What I usually like about open world games is they give me the ability to explore environments. Far Cry doesn't let you do that because you are constantly in the middle of a fire fight. This frustrated me at first, but ultimately I've come to appreciate it because even though you have to play smart to stay alive, you have more options for making a tactical approach in the open world than in a corridor system.
The difficulty is infuriating and the story is cheese fluff, but I still thinking it's an above average FPS game.

Best, most honest review I’ve seen so far, as someone else mentioned, too many reviewers and gamers (including myself) were drawn to the technological appeal of this game, I was a huge fan of the original Far Cry. But it seems most of the reviewers only played the game for a short while because after the first few hours you start to realize how repetitive the game is. After you get past the “propagating fire”, you realize the game offers nothing new to the genre.
