Which is kinda the point it takes more time to get the feel for a ps2 controller than a gamecube one or just about any controller where i am concerned.

Also i believe a controller should feel familiar almost immediately and in that the ps2 one does not perform well in comparison.

But then again i haven't been using a ps2 controller regularly.

While I do like the Gamecube controller, it just is rather awkward as hell to play Soul Calibur II on it. If the face buttons were normal and the dpad a tad larger, I would probably like it more. I never really had any problem with the Dual Shock controllers. Then again PS2 was my first console so maybe I just got used to it.

One complaint i'm surprised to see is that it is a jack of all trades. I think that works in the Dual Shock's favour, as any genre can be reasonably comfortable for me on the PS. It's that specialization that the GameCube and Xbox controllers seem to have that make me not like them as much. That being said, if you play the games the GCN and Xbox were specialized for a lot, it's hard to use the DualShock again for them. But I play mostly fighters and RPGs, so Dual Shocks fine for me.

Quoted for truth.

I went with PS2 controller. As much as I love the comfort of the GC controller, I don't find it ideal for every genre (fighters, FPS), whereas a DualShock 2 fits the bill for practically everything.

Put it this way, if its a 2d style game and I had to chose between the two, PS2 would win. But on the other hand if it is a 3d style game Gamecube would be my choice.

I know a lot of people don't like the GCN controller, but I think a lot of this stems from ignorance, either because they pre-judged what a controller should look like or never really tried it out.

So I went in the middle, took a working and a broken cube controller and created Cube controller with two real joysticks
So this is how you want your gamecube controller to look?

My thoughts exactly, minus the vote. Playing FPS's with a Dual Shock just feels clumsy to me. Loose is an accurate description. For me, the left analog should swap positions with the D-PAD just like the Gamecube, Xbox/360, Dreamcast (minus the right stick) controllers. For every thing else, I think it's a great pad.

I'd have to go with the PS2 pad as I have a lot more experience with it.

The gamecube controller is definitely comfortable but I have no issues with the PS2/PS3/Xbox 360 controllers. I guess I'm just adaptable.

Dual shock for sure. Not a fan of the GCN button placement. Downright horrid for fighters, imo.
