Gamepro subscribers

Post by bmoc »

So I knew that Gamepro was changing their format to a quarterly instead of monthly but what I didn't know is that they were changing my subscription to PCWorld. Yesterday, I got my first issue of PCWorld with a letter attached to it stating that because Gamepro is changing quarterly I will now be receiving PCWorld instead. Future issues of Gamepro will be newsstand and bookstore only.

They are going to be getting an angry phone call from me later today...

And yes, I realize that Gamepro magazine hasn't really been relevant in a while but the subscription was a gift from my wife who knew that I liked Gamepro in the past (when I was a teenager in the mid-late 90's). It was actually a very thoughtful gift considering she doesn't care much for my gaming habit.

I mostly just came here to vent but I'm curious if anyone else is fired up about this?

I hate when they do that. I remember when EGM was canceled and they started sending me Maxim instead. That's fun explaining to the parents.

That's very shitty of them. If you wanted to subscribe to a different magazine, you would do it on your own.

Hopefully when you call and complain, they refund you the money for that PC magazine. Just because magazines are dead, doesn't make it OK to pull shit like that.

I just called the PCWorld subscription department and they were very helpful which is good for them because I was prepared to get very irate. Being in tech support, I try to be very courteous to anyone doing any kind of phone support because I know exactly what they have to deal with. Anyway, they offered to give me a refund or a subscription to MacWorld instead. I went with the refund which should arrive in 2-3 weeks.

That is pretty hilarious about EGM and Maxim. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, this makes me sad...back in the day I was addicted to GamePro, had boxes worths. I got rid of them a long time ago but recently I found a place online to read through all of the old GP's up to about issue 120, been having a nostalgia blast.

Realistically they've been kind of balls for a long time, more advertisements than news...and more and more advertisements for non-gaming related stuff, as other companies realized that games are now big.

Ha, that reminds me of when AMS (American Musical Supply) would send me free magazine subscriptions for being a good customer. But I got some kind of hip hop magazine. Some big black guy with no shirt on and lots of bling was on the front cover. It's funny that they thought I, a customer who bought primarily electric guitars and guitar related stuff at that point, would be interested in reading that magazine. Why not send me Guitar World (or whatever that magazine is called)? Not that I would read that one anyway.

...I didn't even know Game Pro was still around, to be honest.

same shit happened to me a few years ago but with a different magazine.

Play Magazine shut down about 2 months after I renewed! I was a subscriber for about 2 years.

Didnt give me any warning at all!

Like a dumbass I checked my po box and nothing came! Only untill I saw online that they ended it.

Dammit

Really liked that mag too. They posted and reviewed games that were just a little different

never gonna subscribe to anything from that company again.
