Price check on commodore cartridges/floppies?
I went into an antique store where there happened to be some old C64 games and floppy discs. In cartridge form were:
Spy Hunter
Ms. Pac Man
Deadly Duck
Lode Runner
Pitstop
Pitfall II
Miner 2049er
Frogger
and Jupiter Lander
in floppies, there were
Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
Lode Runner
Plasmatron
Xevious
and too many more that I neglected to write down. The only one I bought was Miner 2049er. Did I pass up a treasure trove?

Do you have a C64 or 128? Though a dated computer it does have some unique treasures. About how many games were at that store?

I listed all of the carts, but there were at least 20 games on floppy discs. I don't own a C64, though. I really want one but I don't have a good understanding of how old computers work.CRTGAMER wrote:Do you have a C64 or 128? Though a dated computer it does have some unique treasures. Cartridges on C64 are plug-n-play. For floppies, just remember these two commands, in this order:Gooseberrysoda wrote:I listed all of the carts, but there were at least 20 games on floppy discs. LOAD"*",8,1 then press enter (or you can type in the name of the game in the "", such as LOAD"DIGDUG",8,1)
then after it loads type in RUN
and bam, you got a running game. There's more commands you can learn by researching online, but those are the most important ones for playing games.
Another important one is "List" which will list all files on a floppy disk.

If the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is complete with "feelies" I'd guess it's worth around $50.
I regularly get complimented for the "Don't Panic" button that's included. If you like the books, I'd recommend picking it up.

Man, I hated Jupiter Lander
We had a huge C64 collection growing up. Leaderboard Golf ruled.

Just like with anything else, completes are worth more than loose things. As mentioned, Infocom games like HHGTTG often came with a lot of props and things that can add a lot to the value of a game if complete.

Most 8 bit computers have game carts and can hook up to the Composite input of your HDTV. The C64 can be adapted to SVideo with basic splicing of the video wires.
Hobie pointed out the correct commands to load up floppy discs, most will auto run after the load. The 8 designates the floppy drive and the 1 is for memory location load usually for machine language programs. Basic programs can be loaded with just the ,8.
Multiple PRG files
You can also type LOAD"$",8 to bring up a floppy disc directory. After the directory load type LIST and press RETURN. Unlike the PC in DOS, the C64 allows the cursor to go anywhere so arrow up the directory list. Then type in LOAD and put a ,8,1 after the quoted name. The program will load then arrow down, type RUN and press RETURN to start.
C64 Keys default to CAPS and Shifted Key Graphic
Most of Commodore Vic20 and C64 commands also have "shorthand". For instance instead of typing out LOAD, press L then shift O would do the same thing. Note that the shifted O would actually be a key graphic instead of the small o.

A little trick if you type commands wrong pressing SHIFT RETURN ignores, pressing RETURN prompts back an error message. If you get a EPYX FASTLOAD Cart simply press the COMMODORE KEY AND RUNSTOP to load the floppy. A very useful cart that really speeds up the slow load of the commodore drive.
ANY 2600 controller works with the Vic20 and C64. The 2600 Paddles make a great spinner for Omega Race!

Yup, I distinctly remember using a 2600 joystick with our C64.

You can yes, but honestly 2600 joysticks are iconic, but crap for long periods of use. Wico and Suncom sticks are better.retrosportsgamer wrote:Yup, I distinctly remember using a 2600 joystick with our C64.
