I don't have a problem with the scouts discriminating on a belief, since religion is the cornerstone of the scout's beliefs.

I do have a very big problem with religions getting a free pass on discrimination and shaming tough.

Yes, it makes sense to reject inmoral people from your morality-centric organization. The problem I have is with horrible morals.

They have every right to practice their beliefs as they see fit. They can even be tax-exempt like churches and non-for-profits are in this country. My problem is that they are funded in part by the government. I can't think of other examples of groups that discriminate on the basis of religion or sexual orientation getting millions of dollars in federal funds annually.

Fair enough. But no money from the taxpayers, then. To me it's the same thing as federally funded universities forbidding military recruiters at career fairs. An organization shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

Hold on, are you guys sure that this isn't just an isolated occurance? I was sure that I knew an Eagle Scout who was an atheist. Anyway, as a Christian, I have to say that what that scout leader did was terrible, and he should be punished for it. Turning away people is a shame both to the scouts and to my faith.

This is kind of weird. I went to Lowe's Foods to pick up some groceries, and there were two cub scouts selling popcorn. $10 a bag.

It's like the stuffed animals I buy at Kohl's for my dog; $5, goes to charity, popcorn $10, 70% goes to help the scouts.

I'm more than fine with that. After all, the Den leaders and such are volunteers, and what do the scouts do? They also volunteer.

But simply put, getting mad at the scouts for being religious is like being mad at a perfectly roasted standing rib roast for being delicious. Life is a bunch of "clubs", and the older you get you have to accept to which clubs you fit into. There is a reason there has always been a "popular" table in the cafeteria for the past few hundreds of years.

The reason for organized scouting to discriminate against queers joining is obvious, what kind of abuse could occur to a gay teen in that setting? The effort to not associate with homosexuals seems more of a way to not add fuel to a fire, and protect themselves and possibly a gay young person from incident.

Think a young person in that situation, dealing with the confusing enough if your straight terms of your sexuality, would be welcomed with open arms by a group of testosterone fueled young males? I like to think that in most cases tolerance would be reached, and no violence would occur, but the reality is something would happen to somebody and shit would hit the fan.

Kids are cruel, and despite the PC reprogramming agenda courtesy of the media, government, and your liberal educators, always have been and always will be. This is the reason why gays are excluded from the Boy Scouts... that and if you let them in all that would get done is a lot of blowing each other.

I always thought that clubs like the BSA were supposed to teach that cruelty and bullying were immature and hurtful. Don't they exist, in part, to instill some kind of moral guidance? Of course kids are cruel, the trick is turning them into adults who aren't...
