Eagle Scouts represent! 8)

Earned it my sophomore year (four years ago now), and I'm glad I did. Made me a better leader in my opinion.

One of the guys that was getting it at the same ceremony as me (five from our troop in one ceremony!) is the son of the now-President of the Chicago Bears, George McCaskey. George was also one of our Assistant Scoutmasters.

I have my two pine car derby cars in my office :) I'll take pics and post, as I cleared house as far as medals went.

(I may or may have not placed a weight inside the front of my car)
I was the king of Pinewood Derby. Four age group wins, two pack championships, one 2nd place in the pack, and one 4th place in the district.

I have more trophies from that than anything else I've ever done.

I go running a few times a week. Whenever I run during daylight someone will, without fail, holler some kind of abuse or noise at me as they drive by.

Invariably it is a fat person.

Is there something to this or is it just a coincidence?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I dunno if its coincidence that they're fat, but I find myself wondering why they don't have anything better to do. :?

What do they say exactly?

yeah....they aren't ever going to willingly get a cent from me...
My best friend in elementary school was a boy scout. His mom was a den mother. The local troop held a signup meeting thing one night at the school and I got my parents to take me. After the little presentation the scoutmaster asked what religion we were and when we replied none they told me I couldn't join. :(

Yeah, I have heard this too - though didn't know if it was policy or a unit by unit thing. Anyway, BSOA has no business getting federal tax money.

Spend your money donating to Girl Scouts kids, they are much more accepting and cookies>popcorn any day.

This is kind of weird. I went to Lowe's Foods to pick up some groceries, and there were two cub scouts selling popcorn. $10 a bag.

I told them I'd buy if they could recite the cub scout's oath and motto, which they did to a T. It was cute.

I don't have a problem with the scouts discriminating on a belief, since religion is the cornerstone of the scout's beliefs. It's not a fair comparison, but it would be like an african american not being accepting to the black panthers because he didn't believe his people were being oppressed by the white man. "Eh, this might not be the group for you brother, a lot of what we talk about is about being oppressed".

Which gives me an idea. The black panthers need to start doing door to door fundraisers.

I'm not religious either - but I still became an Eagle Scout. Of course we still had attend some religious ceremonies and say some prayers. Religion is kind of tied to scouting, and I don't think it's likely to change. They are excepting of many different religions though - but they are Christian/Catholic centered.

Besides the whole religion thing, scouting is still awesome. I met some great people through it and had some of the best memories of my life because of it. I wouldn't trade the experience in ever. I just wish the organization was more open minded. They really need to evolve especially considering the way scouting's been on the decline.

don't you think $10 is a lot for a bag of popcorn? Who seriously priced that shit?

I do have a very big problem with religions getting a free pass on discrimination and shaming tough.

Yes, it makes sense to reject inmoral people from your morality-centric organization. The problem I have is with horrible morals.
