Seriously, what the actual fuck is going on with this clusterfuck they call a release. If you don't buy it knew you don't get a portion of the story? I'm sorry, but how the hell does that work? This online pass shit has just gone too far now it's affect OFFLINE GAMES. Don't even get me started on the bullshit pre-order bonuses with certain retailers.
When I buy a game I expect to get the entire thing. What happens if this spreads to blu-ray? they have the infrastructure in place to do this kind of thing. What's stopping them? "you bought this blu-ray used, therefore you miss out on scene 3, 5, 8, 12, 20 and 34 unless you buy the Online Pass for £4.99". This is not acceptable. I buy a used car and I get 2 wheels and no stereo. In order to have those I have to pay the manufacturer £1000. How does this even make sense other than absolute pure greed?
Seriously, fuck this game. I'm pirating it. When will publishers learn that in order to break piracy they have to offer a BETTER product than the pirates. In my eyes, the only way to get the most out of this game is to pirate. There's no way around it. If you buy it legitimately you ARE going to miss out on content. Unless you pre-order it from every retailer. What the fuck?
I fucking despise where video games are heading. This is an absolute joke.
Just in case nobody got the joke, I'm talking about Batman Arkham City's totally butchered single player campaign where only some of it is available from certain retailers and if you buy it used you miss out on the entirety of Catwoman's story as well as the side missions.

I'm not buying this, but not because of the online pass. I already played through Arkham asylum and was tired of it by the end. I cant imagine this game really improved the gameplay with batman at all, as they seem to be compensating by shoving as much extra junk as possible into it. Oh boy, I can play as Nightwing? Who cares.

I agree Arkham City is taking it too far. I don't really have an issue with the online multiplayer passes though. However, that's no excuse to pirate it. I don't get people that act like just because some company did something unfavorable that it gives them an excuse to pirate. You are not entitled to that. The fact that people even try and make excuses for it proves they know it's wrong in the first place. Seriously, get your head out of your ass.Niode wrote:

Anyways, all this shit has been caused by Gamestop, Walmart etc. None of them chose to cooperate IIRC and give a share of the ludicrous margins they make to the publishers, and the people who actually made the fucking game aren't getting payed. I can at least understand why they're doing this. I don't like it at all, but, the people we need to point our fingers at aren't the publishers and developers.

Should a used car dealer give money to the manufacturer for every car they sell? No. Why should the same apply for software?RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I agree Arkham City is taking it too far. You miss out on content because different retailers have different pre-order bonuses. You can't get it all unless you pre-order from all the retailers, why should you have to buy the game multiple times or spend extra money on stuff that's already in the game. It's bullshit.
What I'm saying is, the only way to get all the content at launch without having to pay over the odds for the game is by pirating. That just should not happen. EVER.

I agree, but wait, what do you miss out on exactly if you don't pre-order? What do you mean by "miss out on portions of the story"? I looked at the Wikipedia quickly and the only pre-order bonuses I see are suits and challenge maps, as well as random bullshit collector's items. Are you just freaking out over the challenge maps, or am I missing something?Niode wrote:I fucking despise where video games are heading. This is an absolute joke.

I'm also in the minority that found the original AA to be rather average, but because ZOMG DE DARK KNIGHT people went "apeshit" over it. It might be the best comic-based game out there, but since I'm not crazy about the winged vertebrate the game felt ordinary to me.Retrozoa wrote:I'm not buying this, but not because of the online pass. It's just challenge maps. Niode's just being Niode.brunoafh wrote:I agree, but wait, what do you miss out on exactly if you don't pre-order? What do you mean by "miss out on portions of the story"? Anyways, again, I'm not keen on preorder bonuses either. I think it's bullshit they take away development time for that sort of stuff too. To act like this is something new is completely absurd though. This shit has been happening for the last 2-3 years.Niode wrote:/snip/
Also, to retort your used car dealership comment, I say, do you really expect a used product to be as good as new?
That's what makes games different. Sure the CD can have a scratch that can be buffed out, but the actual product (software) is exactly the same. That's what makes it different from a used car.

It was just as much because of AA's Batman The Animated Series ties that people bought it. It's a lot more like that show than TDK.Pulsar_t wrote:I'm also in the minority that found the original AA to be rather average, but because ZOMG DE DARK KNIGHT people went "apeshit" over it. This online pass stuff is lame, but I'm just going to buy it new. No way I wanna miss out on Arkham City, it's too good.
Edit: I might get it used from Gamestop, or from Ebay if it comes with the codes.
