Isn't there no copyright protection on the Dreamcast? Unless there's some modding that needs to be done to be region free or something?

I think it was meant to be read as "... my dreamcast and modded sega saturn ..."

Technically no. What you may be thinking of is the Dreamcast's ability to play burned CDs, as when it boots those it ignores the region.

I like the term "Pirate's Syndrome" coined on page 2. It's really the truth when it comes to rom sets. A decade ago, it was almost hoarding to just collect roms. I saved them for a rainy day that never came.

Now I use emulation only for MAME and the occasional tryout of an old game. I also like it to grab screenshots as it's considerably easy.

I try to avoid them as much as possible, but they can be useful in emergencies, like for games that don't let you save anytime and can't play all the way through a long area (*cough* shin megami tensei *cough*) or if you're in the middle of a level and your 3 month old baby woke up.

Maybe it's just me, but when I use an emulator I try to emulate (see what I did there?) the actual game as accurately as possible. For example, when I play a SNES ROM, I use a SNES controller hooked to a Super Smart Joy (USB adapter). I don't use any cheats or save states (I actually don't even know how!), if I have to leave suddenly I just leave the game paused and running.

I also have a USB adapter for N64 controllers (I really don't see how you can emulate N64 games without one of these), a Saturn-style USB controller, and a Logitech gamepad that looks like a PS2 controller.

Back in the day I used to emulate nothing but turn-based JRPGs and would use a keyboard for controls. Can't imagine going back to that now, although my friend played through a Donkey Kong Country ROM with just a keyboard!

I'd like to get into emulation on the PSP, but I have no idea how to do it.

I assume this also means you'll go out of your way to use the most accurate emulators possible then? I.E., you won't touch an SNES emulator that isn't bsnes?

I tried an emulator last night. And for some reason everything seemed perfect but my timing was off. I couldn't go by feel like I do on the original. It's just not the same. The VC I haven't had much trouble though.
