Poll: Biggest 16-bit Fighter or Biggest Modern FPS

Post by o.pwuaioc »

Some people made the compared today's FPS's to yesteryear's (16 bit gen's) fighters. Halo and Street Fighter II are the biggest of the big franchises when it comes to these genres respectively. So, what do you guys think: is this a fair comparison, or is one game inherently superior to the other?

By the way, this is not supposed to be antagonistic. Just curious what most people here think.

Street Fighter by all accounts perfected a genre of gameplay, I would argue Halo took many backwards steps in terms of it design. The Flood is the biggest case of lazy developers I have ever seen, lets reuse half the levels and make you backtrack while fighting the most boring and generic enemies, YAY!

Its a weird comparison to say the least, but my vote went with Street Fighter.

I think both are good games in their own way. Personally, I've had hours upon hours of fun playing both games, so I picked both are great, although I think I would end up rating Street Fighter II higher than Halo if I actually sat down and thoroughly weighed the positive and negative of both games.

I didn't vote but I'd say its a little unfair since street fighter basically made fighting games while halo is just a really big franchise in a genre. Yes I do relize there were fighters before street fighter (http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/fighters/fighters.htm) but they weren't really what we would call a true fighting game with combos and all.
