quick question about dreamcast vga mod
hi ive just built a vga board for the dreamcast i have all the chips on the board and i have the vga socket soldered on there too but im a little confused about the switch from what i can tell is the switches only purpose to bridge the vga connection?

The switch makes the Dreamcast choose to either put out a VGA or an RGB signal. It can't do both at once...

ive put vga on one side of the switch and rgb on the other with ground bridged across both middle legs and i still get out of range with switch left or right im not sure what to do?

are my chips right? i bought the right ones im sure but there both brown
2 have gold, brown, green and brown
2 have gold, red, purple and yellow
i put them the same way round as this and put the gold band at the top

See, it's questions like that that make me give up on you. I told you multiple times already you should first educate yourself before you start asking questions. Heck, you PM me asking questions on how to add a second bios chip to your Dreamcast and you don't even know that a resistor is a resistor and that the direction of the resistor doesn't matter. Seriously...

i bought the chips it said buy its just mine are brown and in the picture his/hers were blue im just not sure why that and my monitor says out of range

They are called resistors, not chips.
Start the Dreamcast without a game in it and tell me if you can see the menu screen with the 4 icons...

i was saying chips in reference to everything the resistors, capacitors and diodes and no i press the power button my monitor comes on with a black screen with a blue box in the centre saying out of range
