For instance: The AVGN has that huge surge protector that he keeps most of (if not all) of his ac adapters plugged in at all times.
I personally always keep mine unplugged but it does take extra valuable time to plug in every time I want play a system.
Do you always keep your systems plugged in?

If I'm not mistaken, keeping adapters always plugged in wastes a bit of electricity. Even if that weren't true, I still only have at most 2 of my systems plugged in at any one time: one brick and one regular cord.

Most of mine are plugged in - but I have power strips w/on-off switches and turn them all off when not using them.

The Power Bar has a kill switch if I go on vacation
I have all my consoles hooked up to not a power strip but a huge power bar under the coffee table and three switchboxes of Composite, SVideo and Component. The Atari 5200 gets its own dedicated RF input in back of the WEGA, the single RF Power lead is plugged in there. Did I mention coffee table? Yes all my consoles are within reach of the couch. Its pretty bad having to lean forward to switch games.

Leaving a power adapter plugged into an outlet, without having the other end even plugged into anything, it still heat up. So yeah, I would think it's safe to assume it still uses a bit of electric.o.pwuaioc wrote:If I'm not mistaken, keeping adapters always plugged in wastes a bit of electricity. I'd have to answer yes and no to this question. In my bedroom, I have a nice TV stand were everything stays hooked up and plugged in. I keep my bedroom more like a den though. I only keep a small amount of consoles in there though. PS2, PS3, SNES and Wii.
The rest of my consoles are in my basement den, or "man cave" if you want. There, I have two shelves above the TV which all my consoles sit on (currently 12 I think). When I wanna play a system, I take it down from the shelf and plug it into my TV's front AV ports. If I plan to play it often over the next few days or whatever, I'll leave it down and hooked up, but I'll usually unplug the power adapter when I don't plan on using it for an extended period (at work, sleep, etc).
The biggest reason I don't leave them hooked up in the basement is because there's too many of them. I don't wanna chain AV selectors and whatnot. The other reason is, because there are so many consoles, the only place I can keep them is on shelves about the TV. I can't play them from up there (the controllers wouldn't reach the couch). So it just ends up being easier for me to do it the way I do it. The TV sits on top a long dresser. The bottom draw has all my AV and power cables. It might look like a pile of mess if you saw it, but it's actually neatly organized. I use a lot of twist ties and rubber bands too.
Some of yous have seen some pics of my basement den years ago when I first joined the forums. Yes, it IS epic, just like every man will claim his man cave is! I've been wanting to post updated pics of it for a while now, as it changes every so often. One day, when the room is clean enough to photograph!

All in favor of crashing at Ziggy's place?
Re: Do you always keep your systems plugged in?
I keep them unplugged. But the power strip I plug them into is easily accessible so I don't have to dig around for cords.

The NES, SNES and N64-2 remain unplugged until gamin time.
The GCN, Wii, N64-1 and GEN stay plugged in unless a storm is happening (I get paranoid).
The DC hasn't been plugged in for ages because both of my VMU's are shot.

PS3, PS2, and 360 are plugged in. PS1, GC, and Wii are not. All other systems are put away right now.

Just my PS3. I turn off the 3 power strips for everything else when I am not using them.
