nes controller to wii adapter

i just got one, haven't used it yet cuz my wii is packed up right now... but maybe you've heard of it (nes controller female on one end and gamecube controller male on the other), i got it from retrousb and it's an adapter that let's u use nes controllers w/ the virtual console. anyway, i'm planning on plugging it into my gamecube and using it for the gameboy player (it ought to work, i don't see why it wouldn't), but... my 'cube is all dismantled and i'm waiting for a sunny day to paint it. anyone tried it with the gb player?

If you are use Xbox 360 gamecube controller for usb converter then It would be great for it. I have also used wired 360 controller. I have played any game through it very well over any emulators. I wish that You will also find it as soon.

I have both adapters retrozone sells.

While marketed as Wii adapters, these are in actually Gamecube adapters.

The NES retroport maps the buttons as such

Select Z

Since the NES controllers acts as a GC one, it works to some extent with all Gamecube software, including the Gameboy Player. Just be aware that because Select is mapped to Z, you will not be able to efficiently play anything that requires the Select button. Also keep in mind the NES pad obviously lacks the L and R buttons of the GBA, making most GBA games also difficult to play with just an NES controller.


The SNES Retroport however does have enough buttons for everything and works great.

Using either pad is a great way to experience Soul Calibur 2, Sonic Mega Collection, Megaman X Collection, Nintendo Puzzle Collection, Ikaruga and a number of other titles.


On the Wii, these adapters will function in any game that allows you to use a Gamecube controller, which is surprisingly thinning these days. For the most compatibility you should use a Wii Classic Controller, but if you are like me, you hate the damn thing. Luckily, there's another option: The Mayflash NES/SNES adapter.

This adapter, roughly the same price as one of the Retrozone Retroports, plugs into the Wiimote and allows you to plug in real NES OR SNES controllers to function as a Wii Classic controller.

The advantage here is you need only one adapter for both controllers and can use NES or SNES controllers to play everything that supports the Classic Controller, regardless of if it supports the Gamecube pad as well.

The only problem is that the Mayflash adapter has a DB-9 pin connector used in Famiclones instead of the 7-pin NES standard. I wrote up a tutorial on how you can correct this.

It's also come to my attention since that you would create a DB-9 to NES 7-pin adapter or hack up an NES extension cable rather than hacking up a real NES.

Yes. The Super Famicom 7pin connector is used in US SNES and Super Famiclones the world over. In fact, Mayflash suggests you use original controllers as Super Famiclone controllers might provide interference and incorrect commands.

So, can you use a Sega Genesis controller with the Mayflash through the DB-9?

No. The Sega Genesis controller carries a different data line set than the Famiclone standard; you cannot use anything but Famiclone DB-9 controllers with the stock Mayflash adapter. If anyone is interested, I am willing to offer my services and mod the adapter for a small fee. The only thing I require the sender provide outside of the adapter is a female NES port from an old toaster NES. If you live in the US, these can be found readily and cheaply on ebay in non-working condition.

Satoshi, so you know, it looks like they have started bundling a 7pin to 9pin adapter with this adapter. So no more finding a spare 7 pin port, they are giving it to you from the getgo.

Yeah. I've ordered one another Mayflash Adapter just to have a lok at the little through cable they've added in. I'm not entirely confident that it will be of much quality judging from what I've seen on Mayflash's site.
