Would you rather buy a $2.99 disc or download a $9.99 PSN release?

Easy solution. Allow people to download the game in advance of the release date. Give people a week to download it, so they won't all download it at the same time. This way everyone can be ready when it hits midnight on launch day.

Or they could form a queue. "The servers are currently busy. Your download will begin shortly. You are currently number xx in line." It would automatically update you about your place in line, and then start the download when it's your turn.

Steam does this all the time....I assume you don't use it?

I am not spineless nor am I a push over. Others simply not sharing your concerns or values is no reason to be so insulting.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

but mj is saying they are making money on physical releases. WHY do you think they'd decide to stop producing something that is making them money? Stop and think about what you're saying, and ask yourself how it makes any sense from a business standpoint. You're the one always pointing out how much these companies like money.
People buy physical releases because it is the only version of the game, or they prefer it over download (if both are available). If the physical version is not available whatsoever, people would feel forced to get the download version.

They make a hell of a lot more money from downloads than physical media. They also get to prevent their customers from having any sort of ownership or control over it that way. It's win/win for game companies.

Of course they aren't gonna suddenly go from 100% physical to 100% download overnight. People would revolt. Look at the past 5 years. They have been making the transition gradually. As soon as they believe that they can go 100% download, they will. Trust me on this.

And I, for one, welcome our new ant overlords.

If you aren't spineless or a pushover then don't let what I said bother you. It is not true. I was talking about gamers in general. Generally speaking, gamers are spineless and pushovers. Most of us don't mind getting fucked over, and those who complain about it, most of them end up supporting the companies.

If you are like me and you actually don't support companies who try to fuck you over, good for you. We need more people like you.

Never used Steam. I can't use it because I prefer to own my games, rather than lease them. I'm not the type to bend over whenever a big corporation asks me to.

I like how GoG does it. That's the right way to do download games.

mjmjr25 wrote: Hmmm, I don't know. Seems like a leap to assume that. Physical copy sales are strong. Any one of us can go on ebay and buy an SD card with 500 DS games on it for $50 (or considerably less at auction), yet the physical copies of those individual games still sell for $10-20. We can burn or emulate all these older games and it has really not affected the value of their physical copy's.

I know i'm not alone in loathing download just as a preference, but factor in server issues and the simple idea of trading in a game you just don't like, there are more reasons to suggest the physical copy will remain for the foreseeable future, than signs pointing to the industry going strictly DL.
If the PS4 and the next Xbox are download only, they will probably be successful. Most gamers wouldn't even care. For those who would care, they would complain about it on the internet, but end up supporting it with their wallet anyway. Even the people who insist on boycotts will be supporting it in secret.
For someone who hates stereotyping and generalizations, look up ^ there? Maybe you say one thing in text and do something else in practice. That isn't everyone and it isn't me.

There are literally thousands of physical copy games I have yet to play and it would take me the rest of this lifetime to get to half of the games i'd like to give a shot.
